You can basically choose (vote is not a great descriptor because it implies people can get stuck with an event they didn't want) what arena you play in, and in the offchance no one picks your area, you just outright win. So there can be multiple winners for one game with this mechanic (up to 5, because you can get a majority in one area so it splits into 2 stadiums and then the remaining 3 out of the 13 pick their own stadiums, resulting in 5 stadium lobbies with 5 clear winners).
I guess that's better? I hope I can play 16 players in a friend lobby online or using LAN play so that I can just have the default random option for stadiums enabled with that many players.

Each character does have a special move though and seems to have way more animations, so I don't think it's as easy as MKW where you can just slap whatever model on a warpstar and call it a day.

What if the animal buddies were actually one of the new Air Ride Machine types they mentioned. So instead of Rick as a racer, you'd play as your Racer riding Rick. And they'd have special events where they show up secret rooms or after a boss challenge in City Trial and excitedly wait for you to pick them, and if you ignore them they get sad/annoyed.
