You should be asking why the fuck Flash has an automobile too then when it was asked why he has one in Justice League by Green Lantern, it's just a speedster thing. In Flash's case it was for chicks for example, Sonic and Shadow have their stuff because for Sonic it's to be fair to the other racers and if it's a kart racing he obviously requires one otherwise can't compete. Transformed added to this since Sonic can't fly naturally and Shadow just really likes his motorcycle.
