I feel like a shy and possibly growing anti-undertale/deltarune/toby sentiment wouldn't happen IF the indie jrpg esque scenario had more games that had nearly the same popularity or were as popular as omori at least. New strong ips are an important thing to have around and can prevent saturation of other works. Since there's no incentive to try and engage with other games both from the player community and media (even toby himself don't recommend or talk about other upcoming games). There's just how much people can take of endless discussion of the same games + collabs all around + every new indie get inspiration from the same place.

Oddity needs to come out. And hopefully more very successful games to create a balance.

There was too much whining about Toby in the threads that I just bought Black Souls instead.

The first threads after the remake's announcement were filled with excited discussion, but it soon died out once it became obvious that said remake would be a downgrade in every way. Since actual fans of OFF didn't like it, these threads are always filled with people who don't care about OFF that just want to discuss the current controversy.

I'm pretty bummed. Even the LISA remake was only just divisive and managed to deliver some new content that was still considered worthwhile (new boss battle themes, Joy mask lore). Nobody fucking likes the OFF remake, and with good reason.

I just finished it yesterday, the combat is much better although you can just beat the whole game at level 20 or so.
Kinda disappointed the new bosses ending up leading nowhere in the end with no payOFF for the story, I was kinda expecting an alternate ending or something.
And of course the OST is decent but pales in comparison the orginal.

I'm still confused why their classes were the Holy Trinity, though. So what do you guys think OFF is actually about then? As I mentioned previously, I think OFF is a story about a child with some terminal illness, probably became ill early and only experienced bits and pieces of the world before the beginning of the game where perhaps the illness has put him in a long sleep. The Batter is likely the inevitable biological mechanism for death, taking the form of what Hugo associates with fatherhood. The zones are Hugo's creative interpretations of human society, Elsen are his interpretation of humanity while the specters are manifestations of his illness.
Pretty surface level interpretation, but I am of the mind that the game takes place inside Hugo's psyche and the collective unconsciousness.

I just straight up interpreted it as Batter being an abusive dad who killed his wife and kid, and this is what the kid sees in his imaginative mind. I read in the archives that there were translation mistakes and that actually Batter and Queen wasn't referring to Hugo as their kid though

Your interpretation is the most popular one, I think. Mortis has said bits on pieces on his intent and it's a lot different from what anyone came up with, though. From what I remember

Adding to this, I always wondered from what Mortis said if OFF was supposed to be the aftermath of a sickly guy who was terrified of his own death and trying to overcome it via child experimentation (Hugo) and cloning (the elsen). Obviously we get peeks of what he was like in Zone 3, which had actual enemies in lab coats, but this was something the game never expanded on enough for there to be a solid picture of what Mortis actually envisioned, and it would have made for very solid extra material, so I'm disappointed that the remake did nothing with any of this.

Gameplay is marginally better. There's absolutely no change at all to the story thankfully, but the music imo makes this version a complete non-starter. Several areas have music that fundamentally doesn't match the intended atmosphere. The only meaningful additions are the new bosses and frankly they're all bad. Just play the original
