Not quite. Stormblood had a pretty bad MSQ as well, but it respected the setting and the world building and still had some interesting things going on with a couple of characters. Dawntrail is just a complete void that actively sabotages any feeling of excitement you could have. Even the Scions act like they're completely lobotomized, they're literally not the same characters anymore.

It's funny cause from an MSQ perspective, I think Stormblood had the most variety when it came to characters and even the plot moments. There were so many solo instances to, while Dawntrail only had like 3 (one of them being Wuk).
Lyse was hardly as bad as Wuk. Very few people actually hated her, most of them was reddit libtards seething she was a "White Nepo Savior" for the poor Mhiggers. And she would step to the side for other characters, like the Raubahn stuff, Gosetsu/Yugiri moments, even for Hien. Hell, I just remembered how Alphinaud was at your side right before the siege on Ala Mhigo to convince the wolf domans to defect.
The few instances of hatred for her here are the same doomers that extrapolate anything to the extreme (like they did for HW before, and ShB after).

The omega in wilds feels like a crossover that had an idea behind it which doesn't actually thematically work in practice.
The whole "artificial life becoming more real" thing with the new flagship and the genocide robot.

But it absolutely is, at least when it comes to world building and writing. I'm into roleplaying in FFXIV (actual RP, not the other kind) and big on the lore of the game. While there's always been ups and downs throughout the history of this game, never before have they sucked so much joy out of me as they did in Dawntrail. Surprisingly, Wuk Lamat is *not* the worst part of that, but it's the complete and utter lack of any kind of culture on an entire new continent. There's no interesting history to speak of, all the customs are basically just momentary gimmicks and quickly discarded, there's no language, architecture, tradition, art. At least not to the extent that it's worth talking about. And my standards aren't exactly very high when it comes to that, since it's still a fairly mediocre fantasy setting all things considered, but at least it had the illusion of adventure and mystery. Dawntrail is joyless and dull, in a way that I never would've expected. There's a scene where we go into the gigantic cyberscape city from another Shard for the first time and nobody fucking cares. Our Scion companions, which are supposed to be scholars, barely bat an eye.
