There are no "legitimate force of relative good" in any fallout game, except the player himself (and that's optional).
Good people are incompetent and/or powerless against bigger factions, arguing about the series' bigger factions always ends up being a discussion about lesser evils, and the conclusion of every discussion always starts with "buy MY player character can[...]" because Fallout is an RPG.

Yeah and they want to prevent another fuck up with it by destroying the Institute which is making a bunch of sentient(?) robot people that could replace others like skinwalkers. Their hatred towards the Institute and synths makes sense and there's plenty of things that FO4 does poorly but depicting the synthesis of FO3's heretic branch and the more traditional elements of the BOS isn't one of them

That's way more in line with how the BOS was depicted in FO1, 2 and NV than a bunch of noble chivalrous knights in FO3 to the point where in-universe the Capital Wasteland BOS actually acknowledged they deviated from their original mission and was cut off as a result of that.

would be the strangest character change of them all, when you walk around the Fort and the Legion camps around the map you find Legion soldiers of all skin tones and Caesar himself doesnt seem to have any trouble with this because any person willing to help or work for the Legion is a fine person in his books.
the only thing he's against in terms of diversity is women being on the frontlines, and of course, colonized tribes and towns having a culture of their own.

The BoS were a legitimate force for good. When they found out the US Government was producing the FEV bio-weapon at the base Captain Maxson deserted, personally shot all the scientists involved in it and pulled his rebel force out to bunker innamountains. But then WW3 happened so they didn't get in to a shooting war with the criminal US Government--which was busy evacuating/saving their own asses.

well the main reason was that players liked him too much so the devs needed something abhorrent for him to make you do and turned something optional into something mandatory

the in-game explanation is that they're a long-term threat to him because they're zealous tech hoarders and his would-be empire runs on tech. they're natural enemies. in the original version where it was optional, your argument to him was basically that the dam battle is too important to lose and it's worth leaving a long-term enemy in order to ensure victory at the dam.

I'd argue they are more neutral but have good people within it. Maxon has to straight up go behind the other Elders backs to actually help the Vault Dweller as they originally wanted to ignore the mutant problem because it could be dangerous. Maxon and Rhombus manage to keep the mess that is the elders in check for some time. Much like the NCR cracks formed when the old guard leaders died but the hairline fractures were always there.

Their enemies being incompetent doesn't make wanting to utilize said super weapon to smite your enemies a morally good thing.

>the NCR’s first instinct is to hire a literal smoothtalking retard pretending to be a scientist as the head scientist, literally named Mr. fantastic, in charge of a power station housing a super weapon
This move in fact was a rather good outcome, as it stopped the NCR from even finding out about the super weapon, had they hired someone competent hey would have just had it, but in not doing that they allowed for an outcome where people actually use the station for power which neither the brotherhood wanted nor would the NCR if they knew the truth.

These started popping up two years ago, ish, when the 'actually FO3 was good and FNV is bad' threads were first picking up steam. The images were usually accompanied by astonishingly horrendous English, but whether it was purposeful or not is left up to the reader.
Either way FO3 brainlets fell for it and believed these to be genuine critiques of FNV and praise for FO3, and now we are here.

Nope maxson autism with the synths has nothing in line with a bunch of armored guys in a bunker that does nothing to supermutants unless you ask them
Anonymous No.718586275
Fucked up but I like how bos and enclave are reduced to almost nothing in nv. Makes their armor feel way more badass to wear. It’s a shame you don’t get attacked by the ncr for wearing the remnants armor, but it is cool that arcades endings can have him be whacked by the ncr for helping ppl while wearing his dad’s armor
