I got to mistlands and quit. It's the same shit over and over again

Fix how? Completely revamp or basic shit that should have taken five minutes instead of five years?

That's how survival crafting games go. Unfortunately with Valheim it peaks at Meadows/Black forest, mountains is kinda comfy too despite being a pain to navigate.

I've progressed through swamp multiple times but that doesn't keep it from being one of the least enjoyable biomes
Anonymous No.718609361

The swamp is fun as fuck. Going sailing and searching for it, making trips back and forth, it's probably the best part of the game if it weren't brought down a bit by crypt RNG and much more by the insane amounts of iron you'll need to actually play with it as a building material.

If they rebalanced biomes after the swamp to be nearly equivalent but with different elements the game would be so much better. The treadmill of sequential better upgrades is really boring compared to just opening the world up after a certain point to horizontal progression. Leave Ashlands as another difficulty jump though.

Any decent overhaul mods for Valheim? Not looking for a difficulty spike just more stuff to play with.

While I am somewhat interested in fixed combat (so they say - I'll wait for actual testing done by players), I'm not playing Valheim again until it is 1.0. There have been so many updates that the original world that my wife and Ihave put hundreds of hours of work into is a barely playable mess.

That, and fuck Ashlands. I had enough tolerance to make Mistlands somewhat ok (even though the boss is bullshit) but Ashlands is just fucking cursed. Getting there was an event worthy of d-day and I spent an entire week battling never-ending skeletons in an attempt to make a foothold and I eventually gave up. I killed every spawner I found and a hojillion skeletons will still appear every time I turn around.

Another game put on the "promising but needs probably a decade of development" list

That's my main problem with the game. Barely anything matters. The meadow and forest are okay but once you reach the swamp nothing there matters except finding a crypt to get new metal then you go to the mountain and nothing there matters except finding new metal. The game starts you off encouraging full exploration but quickly devolves into "farm a fuckton of metal and move on."

Completely forgot about this game. Low detail assets, tonnes of money from sales, yet it takes them 2 years to do what should take 2 months. The game should already be completed and have a sequel well under way by now.

Make a town, have some creativity. I had a ton of fun making a tavern and a church. My friends made a smithy and a shipyard.

Riverheim only changes the map generation algorithm which is cool I guess, I'd recommend

Another cool mod: Spearfishing, allows you to fish with your spear or bow which is great cause I don't like the fishing minigame, you can sitll fish with the rod if you want

Structures pack by warpalicious, new structures for Valheim, pretty vanilla

Triple bronze, because I don't like grinding
Target portal
First Person Mode, actually great when you're at the forest dungeons, helps a lot with the 3rd person clipping
AzuCraftyBoxes and AzuAutoStore is a great QoL duo too

I still think Valheim should not have been a bunch of islands

Mods break all the time as the Valheim devs update the game, this Call to Arms update is bound to break a lot of mods too also there's a lot of people just waiting for the 1.0 instead of modding it

Sure, and yet games like 7D2D have multiple overhauls despite the game still updating. It confuses me why some games get this kind of attention and others less so, I guess ease of modding would be it.

Wrong, game encourages collecting old resources in various ways. Big one is food. Those berries you munch at the start of the game end up being vital for potions and bigger meals.

These mother fuckers made millions at launch and got lazy. Valheim is just your typical Patreon scam. 4 fucking years and the game isn't finished yet. And not only that, there are obvious holes in biomes in the way of weapons and armor in the game.
Fuck these 'devs'.
Anonymous No.718618890

Yeah it's blatantly obvious that they basically quit after the game got massively popular early on. They no longer have incentive to work on the game because they already got their mountain of mountain and the game barely has an active playerbase left.

What survival game isn't like this these days? Grounded is the only complete game I can think of in recent years and it was made by an actual seasoned dev, not indie
Anonymous No.718619306 >>718622015
My biggest issue has always been how pointless having a giant world generated but none of the "early" game areas are worth revisiting. At best they are secondary bases near other areas. Meadows and Black Forest need hidden mid/end game stuff to do. Can be as simple as the further from your default game start location, the more high-level these areas would be with their own resources to find.
Anonymous No.718619347 >>718619551
The stupid RPG skilling and xp loss (that you can't turn off by default, even on casual) make this game an absolute slog. Combine this with the lack of character control in very common areas such as shallow water or steep hills make this game pretty unfun to play overall.
Swimming draining stamina - unfun.
Weapons doing less damage than listed because of your level - unfun.
HP pool being abysmal even with armor on - unfun.
Water decaying your uncovered structures - unfun.
Gating stone building dozens of hours into the game - unfun.
Basically, this game sucks, and there are plenty other open world survival crafts that I'd rather play.

I actually like Palworld and to agree to some extent, I just wish the open world felt less MMO-like. The Terraria update helped with that a bit I just hope they do more early level polish.

Yeah wish they did better with that. You can farm and tame animals from the early biomes to have a steady source of their products, but you don't even need them anymore.
