NTA but
Grounded.
Very polished. Lots of content. Hand crafted map. Lots of QoL features like hot deposit and crafting from storage. Art style is cartoony but game is still pretty harsh and spooky at night. Great building. Combat is a bit parry focused when you're playing solo. Hunger and thirst are a bit too aggressive, though there are items to make later that largely fix that.
Enshrouded.
More of an exploration game than strictly a survival game but enough is there I still count it. Almost the best building in any game, hands down. Only flaw is walls are stuck to 90 degrees. Combat is simple but serviceable. Game loop is really fun with gliding around. PoE-light skill tree. Crafting can be a bit clunky since you have to have NPCs with their specific upgrade items plopped down around them.
Subnautica
The best implementation of a story in a Survival game. Masterclass in map and story design leading you to the next thing, which leads you to the next thing, yet you still usually feel like you're discovering things on your own. Good scifi base building. Amazing atmosphere of isolation. Great late game reward in the Cyclops. Shame about the expansion and sequel.
The Forest
Second worst on this list, but still good. Great atmosphere. Okay building. Enemy AI creates incredible moments. Actual survival is easy as piss. Can easily get lost and not know what to do or where to go because you missed something in the pitch black caves. Ending gauntlet is actual garbage.
Green Hell
Masochist survival game. Generally kind of bad, but worth trying out for free or very cheap. Kind of neat system of balancing nutrition. Kind of neat system of having to check your body for jungle nightmares like bot flies, leeches and injuries. Die because you didn't notice the 4 pixel brown spider on the brown jungle floor and it bites you and no cure can be made from the plants in the area.
