The MSQ is one and done and was boring.
The Trial and Dungeon are whatever.
The Alliance raid is fun but you just run it once per week.
The Ex is okay.
Overall it is at max one week of play.

Man, I was hoping for the next one to be after the new deep dungeon

You can always try until you hit the end of the trial. Base game + 2 expansions with a few caveats/limitations. It starts slow, both story and gameplay wise and expects that it's your first MMO ever.
It also helps to treat it like a story with a multiplayer game stapled to it until at least a certain level where you get the option of doing side content.
Dawntrail has plenty of content and has more on the way, though, so if you finish EW and still wanna play the game, there's no harm in trying it out. I know a lot of people who burned out on 7.0 will deny it until they're red in the face, but for gameplay, DT has been pretty good, and the story has been improving after 7.1 as well.

The game is boring and 85% of the quests that I completed were just "go to place really far away that takes awhile to travel to, then go back to Waking Sands, then go to a different place way out the way" over and over.

However, this game does have a really generous free trial. I got almost 50 hours before I was bored of it, whereas WoW's old trial (1-20) would let you play for maybe 3 hours.

I resubbed went from 7.0 -> 7.3 and leveled a warrior and paladin to 100 (using mods to have cool movesets because fuck this games vanilla animations). But man this patch was just disappointing. Wuk was very very backgroundish thankfully but the story was extremely dry. New antagonist is alright and clearly the winterer thing is the new big bad, probably Azem is connected to them. I bet you money the final final boss of FFXIV is going to be Azem aka you but from a different dimension, it's the one way I can see them ending FF and giving a villain that brings back subs to an extent. I expect some type of jailer type plot that Azem was in control this entire time.
