I'm not sure, honestly. All the DLC for Hollow Knight was free so if it had come out for the original game as was intended they might have just given it away to everyone anyway. The fact it was rescoped into a full sequel didn't really impact what was promised to the backers, just that they weren't planning to release it as part of the original game anymore.

Apparently there was a Wii U version that was supposed to exist but that seems to have never been made. They could have had a PS Vita version too but no one wanted to pay THAT much for an unproven Metroidvania, I suppose.

With non-physical goods pricing is a game of figuring out how much you can charge without hurting your sales so much that the increased price wasn't worth it. As hyped as people are, a $60 silksong would definitely sell less than half of the copies that a $30 silksong would.
It's impossible to know the exact optimal point. But it's better to err a little on the low side because it's better to be seen as a bargain than a ripoff when it comes to word of mouth marketing.

I don't personally think this game will live up to people's expectations. It won't be garbage, far from it, but I feel like it's built up such a mythical status that, no matter how good the quality is, a lot of people will end up feeling like the wait wasn't worth it.
