The original Halo trilogy are legitimate 10/10 games, different studios spent over a decade trying to create the "Halo killer" but none could even come close because the original Bungie were gods of gamedesign, it was all in the little subtleties, the little details, the flow of the combat, how the player interacts with the terrain, the enemies, the other players in multiplayer. No studio ever came close to understanding those subtleties. Halo CE still shits on modern shooters despite 20+ years of supposed incremental improvements.

He's actually kinda right in the context of creating expansions for live service game as they call it. If you have a very successful development of one expansion which allows you to add more content then the following expansion which doesn't go as well you'll will be left with either having a longer development period or releasing to disappoint and outrage by the community. Since it's a live service game long droughts of content can obviously lead to people losing interest and leaving while a disappointing expansion in terms of amount of content leads to the same thing and also some anger too, so your stuck between a rock and hard place. Obviously there are many exceptions and over delivering on a expansion is probably a good way to bring people back into the game buts it's not exactly the most sustainable in the long run.

Bungie was still around? Didn't even realize it. Pretty sure most of the original team left after Halo 3 and/or Reach anyway. Can't just replace 95% of the team, call it the same thing and expect the same results.
