Because you only have a limited number of max upgrade kits and mosin does more damage to everything else. With how many enemies there are in every map the difference between one shotting and two shotting a unit is huge. There's already plenty of ways to handle armored units with emp/melt grenades or tesla turrets for the chafe

turrents are always gonna die fairly quickly but all characters have special abilities and mendo can instantly rez all his turrets even if they're already dead
they won't hold the line against real difficult enemies but they're like a replenishable front line to deal damage and soak up hits
you also have holographic taunts (with their own character specific sprites and smug grins) and other shit to take the heat off your units, and yeah they can usually take more than one hit unless it's real tough units

just pirate and try at this point, buy it if you like it

I just finished this game finally after playing on and off for over a year. Got stalled for several months during chapter 4 probably because of the shortage of story content versus just endless missions.

I've never even played either GFL game, only picked this up because of a /v/ thread with a .webm of the final scene of chapter 3 combined with people talking about how the chinks were reviewbombing it for the usual stupid reasons so I bought it as a fuck you to them.

Liked it a lot although I'm left with a bunch of questions; some of the stuff from the lore entries I'm guessing would be answered if I had played GFL (like the Paradeus stuff and Lunasia), but I was hoping to learn more about Sugar.

In the OG timeline Mendo didn't touch her for years, likely to avoid a statuatory rape charge (14 y/o during the game btw) so it'd be Lusica coming onto him if anything. The bigger issue is that she's a terrible actor, and since Mendo has latent memories of both timelines and a literal soul bond with her he'll likely know something is up almost immediately.

I did it in a straightforward manner on my recent replay, but I still needed to reload a few times and hit some triggers in a particular way. It's a real bitch of a mission. I think the funniest part of it is that it punishes you for trying to do the second to last section ahead of time, but then you basically need to do the last section ahead of time or you get fucked. The spawns are really mean. It's a hard knowledge check, so I don't feel bad about having to reload for it.

I thought that I would hate the game on a replay. Just the vague notion of a lot of the tricks and understanding the game better was enough to make it all not painful, though. Some of the solutions on those maps are so absurd you can't help but remember them. And they mostly don't make you repeat a stealth/puzzle section in the same map. I nolifed GFL back then, it was pretty fun even if I had to grind in auto pilot sometimes. Honestly the best part of it is the story both main and event ones. It's great. As other anons have already said, Troubleshooter is very good of you want some more "12 niggas on a grid". It's different to RC, because it's much more focused on creating character builds than immediate tactical strategy, but the game's unique system for doing so is genuinely one of the best I've seen.
