The biggest problem with Korra is they had no idea if they could keep getting more seasons so the ordering of the villains is completely fucked. Season 2's villain is also much more suitable for a finale than a midpoint, and Amon removing her bending would have made for a much better disabled/powerless arc in that midpoint before that. I'm convinced they're going to attempt to retroactively redeem Korra in two ways. First by establishing first thing in the opening narration that she restored the connection to the past lives at some point later in life. I don't know, that didn't really bother me. It kind of felt like a fate / destiny thing. It was karma that while Azula was the one who sealed the Avatar state by hitting that one chakra point, it was her father who hit that same point again to undo what she did.

Destiny was a big part of the show's themes. So a matter of "pure chance" giving Aang the avatar state back seems fitting.

I despise the world building in The Legend of Korra with a burning passion. Avatar The Last Airbender had a world that was not only original but also artistically beautiful, you could truly feel it. The Water Tribes had a distinct blue color palette in their clothing, backgrounds, and environments. The Earth Kingdom was rich in green tones, while the Fire Nation was dominated by deep reds. Korra was clearly intended to have a Mary Sue spirit. And her character suffers from elements of it. It's just that other writing quirks from Bryke counterbalanced it and made her something else - not necessarily good.

Like the fact she's a woman alone, and LoK is already suffering from proto woke and millenial writing, means she never has real criticism, tear down, and grow stronger growth a male would. She's girl so she needs to be protected, even unconsciously, and her feeling are always valid. Ergo Korra ends up cry-bullying her way through the story's problems.

Since she's was designed to be the beest evar in bending and only have "spiritual weakness" as a character flaw she should have in theory been more of a Mary Sue in practice. Curb stomping physical threats while being taught by sages like Tenzen (which she won't listen to or learn from because she's a cry-bully). But because one of the few things they got right is having actually threatening and competent villains that can't be easily one shotted even by a prodigy teenager, Korra just kind of ends up in this weird logical endpoint zone where she's confident, bites off more than she can chew, gets her ass handed to her. And then needs fate to save her ass from herself. Every time. And she never learns. She can't learn.

George Lucas, with the original star wars movies, had people that were much more talented then he was assisting in the writing and directing of the movies, while also holding george back on trying to implement his bad ideas. The prequel series are when George had nobody telling him how to run things or how to write or anyone helping direct (or actually directing, something he famously didn't do for the movies). Bryke is just like George Lucas. You had Roku saying and showing it took him years from being a teenager to young adult to master all 4 elements, stating outright it was "bitter work." I think its more realistic to assume some incarnations of the Avatar can bend more easier than others then struggle on one particular element and others really need to go the extra mile, but may have more raw power. Aang was an airbending prodigy, he gets water quickly, struggles immensely with earth, even noted by Toph in the finale and has moral reservations with fire up until the dragon episode, but otherwise is able to pick it up fairly quickly. Even then I never got the idea he was a complete master at them, as he had to condense a near year's worth of training into 3 other elements.
