It's so strange playing Deadlock. It's got a lot of woke DEI sloppa and is a gay hyper competitive MOBA esports game but there's a glimmer of SOVL hidden within. All the characters having unique voicelines and interactions, the way the patron subtly tries to inspire the characters to free them (no doubt to a sinister end). Maybe it's because it's Valve?

The aesthetic is so cool, but it being ASSFAGGOTS kills all my interest. I even tried it briefly, even bot matches went for 50 minutes and I hated everything about it, I can't even imagine how awful playing online would have been.

That pretty much is the overall sentiment - it's such a specialized skill investment you may as well be playing fighting games. It's extremely team reliant, the map is large, and there are many quirks to game flow in addition to platforming and shooting.
Does it have potential? Absolutely, and it was universally agreed that it was fun when the first closed alpha came about and streamers like Shroud were playing it. But once people invested time into actually learning the game, interest started to peter out because it's a difficult game to truly get into.

Yeah ultimately it is too complex and difficult for its own good to reach a large enough audience to sustain interest. The skill floor to feel competent is way too high for gamers in 2025. Well if the deathmatch is anything like DOTA 2's Overthrow mode, then it will still have money and levelling, but you will passively gain money and XP just by existing on the map, and get bonuses for kills or assists (there's usually small side objectives that give money too), and the map is smaller so there's not a huge run back to base to buy things or heal, it's a much faster match than a regular DOTA match (think 10-15 mins tops vs 40-60 mins) and winning or losing doesn't affect your overall skill rank

Overthrow was a very good addition to DOTA2, it is a great way to get used to how heroes work in combat in a risk-free way, and the matches are quite quick so it doesnt feel like you are trapped in a losing match forever, I REALLY want Deadlock to have something like this, because it currently feels too punishing to try out new characters

The whole lore and appeal of the game is top quality, but the problem is the gameplay itself. It's very complicated for a shooter game. Having good aim literally doesn't matter in this game. So essentially it is MOBA. Why make third-person MOBA when it doesn't work? You have best MOBA game of all time, and instead of taking care of it, you shit out a completely new game? If they made game like Paladins, a very very simplified version of what we got, it would work better since it would mostly be about AIM. The game is not shooter, it's Smite with weird movement and yea some heroes I guess can "headshot" damage you. I don't understand for whom this game was made for.

When you snipe a guy through a window and see his body drop you can't always be sure if he died or dropped prone for cover, especially at a distance. Feedback is mostly sound effects, it is also particle effects and their interaction with the environment and characters, in Tarkov (which I will agree has some utter shit elements) you shoot inside reserve's bunker for example, and everything reacts, lights fall of the ceiling, sounds reverb down the hallways, weapons firing literally light up the enviroment. Smoke and fumes remain for a short time in the aftermath of a fight. And characters flinch, get stunned, scream, and spray blood all over and even leave traces on the ground as they run for cover or escape. Sure you can argue all of this is "just particle effects" sure, but its a combination of various elements and a BALANCE between them that I find is the most important thing and I will recognize its is also the hardest thing to achieve. Hope this clarifies my stance a bit.

Everyone can melee and itemize for melee damage. Everyone also has a gun. Some heroes are more suited to melee than others though because of their kits and stats. The posterboy for this is Abrams (he has a kit very similar to Reinhard in OW).

Invisibility is better seen as transparency, it's like running round with the cloak and dagger at 0 charge. You're harder to notice but not impossible to see. Invis also breaks when you do anything and without wards to act as a means to reveal characters, I doubt they will have anyone that can continue with actions whilst hidden.
