And you don't get the i-frame dodge in hollow knight until towards the end of the game. The combat is not designed around it as a default character ability like in dark souls.

That isn't my problem, I like the idea of ascending to the peak of a more alive but still spooky and cursed kingdom, I just don't think it can recapture the novelty of playing Hollow Knight for the first time, it was also my first metroidvania as it was for many people. A good recent comparison would be Shadow of the Erdtree, which was just more Elden Ring, and improved in a lot of ways, but because you already played the base game there's nothing that really hits like getting teleported to Caelid by a trapped chest or taking the elevator to the underground zone for the first time

I think the best options would be either playing Hollow Knight first at a normal pace without worrying about Silksong if you are the patient type and don't care about FOMO.
