You get all the crafts pretty much by default, hardest part is getting the materials because they drop from content no one bothers to even do because its so boring.
The most expensive thing you can craft in XIV is maybe 1 million gill, but your profit margins are extremely low on the investment costs of the materials.

It's not like WoW or something where you can get a rare drop crafting pattern and you're the only person on the server who can make the item so you dominate the market.

There's always niches you can try to cram yourself into. Day 1 of a patch, you can sell crafted gear, though.

Logically speaking, considering they are on record (afaik) stating that they kinda got blindsided last time with how much work the MH team but into it that they had to scramble something together last moment for their counterpart, I would wanna assume that at the very least, the Wilds collab will have as much work put into it as the previous one. Personally I found the market board super easy to jump into because prices change based on what's there. Usually I'll find myself fighting against the same people for niches, I don't even really do the story stuff much. The other way to do it is to keep current with the newest patches and craft the new battle gear or sell stuff as soon as it comes out but I prefer just finding something that a lot of people want but the market is not really supplying well and figure out how to craft it, gather it or just buy it up from all of the other servers and up the price, that one is really funny

The music and story, Dawntrail excluded, is good. The problem with XIV is the severe lack of content to keep you subbed until the next patch, the gameplay is good but unfortunately you'll only experience this to its fullest in higher tier party finder content(which is also sparse because thanks to Raid tiers being 4 fights every 10ish months), casual combat content is a joke outside of Occult Crescent/Bozja/Eureka and even those run the problem of having too much grinding stimmied by RNG.

Crafting is so dull that most guides will tell you how to set up bots and macros to do it for you while you watch netflix on your second monitor. Cosmic Exploration is FOMO content just like Ishgard Restoration, the premise is cool but you miss out if you aren't there from the beginning and grinding daily.

Wow's housing is gonna flop even among their casual players if the parts aren't flexible enough to approximate other styles. You notice even in XIV most popular housing builds don't look like the base game, it's all modernslop that they've wrangling into existence by glitching items in unconventional ways.
It's gonna be harder to do that with the blocky pixar aesthetic wow uses, but they do have a massively higher item limit going for them so we'll see how it plays out.

Money in this game has no true use outside of buying rare cosmetics housing and hearing up for day one raids.

It's possible, the only thing gatekeeping newer players is time investment gil cost of leveling the crafting and gathering jobs.
But you do have to play through the game as a battle job so you can unlock access to the entire world and item storage, materia melding which will quadruple your asking price on high end gear.
The other problem is some high end crafts require materials from high end battle content or through your weekly currency you get through playing through random dungeons.
So if you just wanted to gather and craft it's possible but you're looking at probably 1000 hours of gameplay before you can really challenge the market because to maximize your earnings you will have to level every crafter and gatherer job to get materials yourself.
Tldr level your starting job beat all the story missions, this will unlock everything, level botanist and sell all the materials you get, this will get gil you need to level other jobs, then weaver, carpenter and alchemist, they you level miner and the other crafting jobs, you start with botanist because mining ore needs to be refined to make a profit, unrefined ore is practically worthless on the market board where raw botanist materials are stronger sellers.
You save fishing and cooking for last, fishing is more for fun, you can't make huge profits from it with cooking or alchemy and cooking requires materials from everything but mostly monster drops

I prefer housing items because unlike crafting food, tinctures, and gear, I don't have to use materia (socketed gems) and I don't need to use food or tinctures myself to increase stats

Fishing and crafting aren't good enough reasons to play unless you're just randomly looking for a way to kill time. You can also kill time with the other things the game offers like mahjong, triple triad, and so much more.

It's been a while since I've played, but money is made mostly by selling current end-gear crafted armor for raids, food, tinctures. There are other niche markets, but you'll be competing with others with products that don't sell that quickly while getting undercut very quickly. Things like crafted items for levelquests/daily turn-ins, top level materia, etc. (With exceptions, fish doesn't usually sell for much btw)
