I haven't read a game review in years. I just look at Metacritic scores. If it's below 55 I'm not bothering. If it's above that I'll look at game footage with no commentary and see if it seems good.

The real problem with game reviews is that anyone who writes them professionally literally has no choice but to half-ass them. Movies you can watch in two hours and write down your thoughts, but most games take 20 hours minimum and sometimes 100+ hours to actually finish, and you're not getting paid by any publication unless you're churning out at least an article or two a week. Nobody who's trying to beat the launch date to write a review has played more than five hours of whatever game they're reviewing and the most value you can extract from it is whether or not it turns on or not and the score is based on how much hype it has.

Personally I don't think we're doing enough considering he hasn't killed himself yet.
