lmao. Modern FPS are literally just watered down arena shooters. Instead of relying on map knowledge and mechanical skill you just pick a gun and "lvl up" your character through some meaningless progression system. Map knowledge is rendered meaningless because there's nothing to hunt down, movement tricks to master or finding optimal routes between items. At best it's randomized loot in some kinda battle royale bullshit. Movement is easy peasy so everyone can do the exact same shit, even on a controller. Movement in arena shooters meant you we're able to clear gaps less players couldn't do.
There's no sense of timing in moving around the map due to no pickups nor is there any sense of timing in your weaponry because everything is hitscan and just about popping heads. Recoil is minor and reloading is animated so fast it's meaningless. It's a far cry from timing rail gun shots or lobbing nades from a grenade launcher. There's no running interference in other players momentum with rockets or a lighting gun.
If you want to go down to the core difference, getting gud at arena FPS meant you, the player are getting good. Getting gud at CoD is just unlocking better gear through half baked exp systems. The player doesn't get a lot better for it. They intentionally keep the skill ceiling low to sell you cosmetics or battle passes. This has been proven time and time again. They even maliciously added the gear that was used to kill you in a kill feed to sell you garbage.
There's also matchmaking so you are always tiered with players at your """"skill""" level so there really is no chance for you to improve substantially by getting thrown in by more skilled players. But it sure will keep those dopamine shots firing and keep you playing.

Casual game mode in any game. Arena shooters don't even revolve around DM. Competitive play is duels, 2vs2 duels and CTF. It's abundantly clear you never played any. You couldn't be more wrong if you tried.
