SH3 made my jaw clench more overall. Those helicopter monsters were nerve wracking. The prison level in SH2 was pretty tense though. I don't think either made me as relieved when things got back to just being foggy and full of skinless creatures again as the first one

2 is more narratively satisfying and fun to play, but 3 is still my pick because SH1 is my favorite. I like it being a direct sequel, I prefer the atmosphere, and I am in love with Heather.

They both scared the shit out of me in different ways. SH2 is more opressive and SH3 is more relentless. I can only play these games in short bursts and I dread coming back to them. If you play them as intended, in the dark, with enough sound and no distractions, this stuff will get to you.
For some reason, SH4 is the one that gets under my skin the most, maybe because it traumatised me as a kid. I never got past the subway back then.

It's actually LESS advanced since it removes light vs. hard attacks and removes hit detection. Instead it's based on spacing and timing turning melee combat into a kind of weird dance or turn based rpg style thing. I hate it.

I can't get over how much of a perfect game Silent Hill 1 is especially under the presentation standpoint, the whole game is a rollercoaster of "oh shit" moments.
Silent Hill 3 has better puzzles, better bosses, better voice acting, better music, and better graphics. And Heather is a much better protagonist.
Silent Hill 2 has a better story and a better ending.
I like Silent Hill 2 more. Makes me wish SH3 was actually more of a character driven story about Heather's personal hell, like SH2. Which was the original intent, before they scrapped everything and made it about the cult from the first game.
