I played it for like 80h when it first came out. I didn't even beat the main story, I just got bored of it and stopped. I was thinking of playing the VR version, tried that as well with a few magic mods but got bored pretty quickly too. I hear there are proper mods targeting the VR version nowadays, which supposedly provide major improvements, so maybe I'll try it again some time and actually play the whole game.

An easier way is to copy and paste all the instructions into ChatGPT and have it make a checklist of what you need. You could also ask the LLM for links to resources or compatibility info with the other mods you have (you can even send it a screenshot). If you plan on repurchasing Skyrim on Steam then you wont need to downgrade or anything, the latest version of AE is now supported relatively well. I personally use the best version of SE which was 1.5.97 but I wouldn't recommend downgrading especially since you got filtered by using GOG version without even so much as asking people on /tesg/.

To be fair, if you started modding Skyrim or any Bethesda game 10+ years ago it was much simpler back then because there were way fewer "recommended" mods and tools to worry about (though LE was buggier if you have a heavy load order). Even just the addition of combat animation mods that need Nemesis/Pandora and OAR is a fucking headache to troubleshoot at the start especially if you have overlapping movesets.

So far I'd always have something to look forward to because the modding scenes are still pretty active with updates and new shit for the most part. Like I remember playing the Witcher 3 once and I had to drop it at the Skellige Islands because my brain was getting fucked, I heard the wind and saw the snow yet all I felt was boiling heat. Use the latest version. The only reason people stayed on 1.5.97 or 1.6.640 was because a bunch of combat modders settled on those versions for a while. Im sure you can find some rare example of a mod that hasn't been updated but that's an exception.

Bethesda patchs in rapid fire so modder don't wanna get stuck in the rat race or create needless work. Mod user can get 500 - 1000 mod lists, they don't wanna update and have to troubleshoot the list or drop mods. The latest version has been around for nearly 2 years, bethesda isnt gonna drop another patch and everyone except a few hold outs have updated at this point.

No, that credit goes to Bethesda actually willing to tear the engine down as far as they could to allow the end user to mod the game as much as possible, they just did it shittily and it showed after a few years.
Then they release SE to try and improve the performance after the fact, and it did almost nothing outside of allowing the game to use the hardware more efficiently (which was nice) but ultimately it was still destined to be dogshit.

They could've taken any other engine and applied themselves in the same way to get the same scale of mod compatibility, and probably have better performance by just having a better baseline engine. Any other game can achieve this if it just had the dedication of the devs to do this shit in the first place.

The last time I've tried modding it the civil war NPCs bugged out and became naked. They had their armors in their inventories and everything but for some reason they wouldn't equip them. Once I finished the quest all the related cities had naked guards. It didn't annoy me that they were naked, I hated that it was seemingly impossible to fix.

all mods besides SKSE plugins are transferrable between LE and SSE. I would just recommend that you run cathedral assets optimizer on LE mods to fix any potential texture issues, and to extract all .bsa files.
That being said, I would recommend not transferring over any armor or body mods. SSE has a bunch of bodyslide-compatible armors and bodies that will let you use something called obody, which allows you to apply any body preset to any npc, and then have all armors in the game conform to that bodyshape. well the one on the lab is like the other anon said bimbo and trying to fill yourself up with the liquid stuff HOWEVER its actually way too hardcore like you can die to a single wolf or a single orc thief on the road you have to be careful if you don't want to end up on the sloot route
so you get the hardcore combat mods and the absolute degen mods combined but I never took to skyrim so I never lasted long
