I gave it a few hours but I didn't get the Hollow Knight hype at all. even at the time, art and atmosphere were done better by shit like Ori and Rain World. Gameplay was actually the weakest part imo. Was it just a bunch of zoomer's first metroidvania?

i was excited for it in 2018
and in 2020
and in 2022
and in 2024
i ran out of excitement as the memories of hollow knight have drifted further form my mind, instead of loving the combat and story and art, i m left with a vague feeling of "oh yeah i had a really fun time when i was playing that", which doesn't spread to a second game the same way a love of individual parts does.

I like the genre as a whole but I dislike how small and blobby the main character is. Something about navigating a small blob everywhere just feels off. Also not a huge fan of the cutesy designs in general. I'm not a huge stickler for mechanics so long as they're not shit.

but it does get better as you go, which is more than i can say about most other indie metroidvanias i play, where they peak around 1 hour in when you unlock the one special ability the creator made the rest of the game around.

I played Hollow Knight in 2020. Still excited for the game and the comfiness of release week. No greedy game ‘journalists’ pre release so everyone’s going in blind. I liked Hollow knight’s world and I’m eager to explore more of it.

for me it's by far the best metroidvania since Super Metroid when it comes to world design and exploration. if they can recapture the feeling of coming across deepnest by accident with Silksong then it's the peak of the genre.

I am excited but not overly so; Hollow Knight was a fantastic experience until White Palace. That place ruined HK retroactively, and I can't play the game anymore because I need to beat that area for the 100%. I hear that the DLC added an even harder version. I completely expect Silksong to have more of that so I can't really be hyped.

I didn't like Hollow Knight, despite giving it a fair try. I got to the city, still didn't like it and realized it wasn't for me.

Playing HK for the first time and the game is kinda dogshit. It's literally just a where the fuck do I go simulator. Upgraded the nail and then proceeded to beat an early game boss damageless under 5 seconds that had shitloads of content locked behind it

I'd be way more mad if Silksong comes out and it's some fully 3d party based RPG or whatever thing that "justifies" a 7 year wait time.
