Outside of the whole "this will never work twice" idea, FE isn't Pokemon. Between major system changes (they still can't decide if they should keep weapon durability), giving each route their own maps, the large cast of characters and classes, and how there's no real multiplayer interaction to justify a split release, it is a big production nightmare that wouldn't pay off at the end of the day. Pokemon just swap some models and Pokemon, copy-paste some script, slap the other box legendary, and call it a day. You just can't do that for FE, even if you are greedy as hell.

Route splits are a mistake when it's hard enough to make a full game's worth of engaging maps by itself. They invariably push asset reuse. I'm less opposed to playing on the same maps provided the scenarios are different than others, but it gets absurd in games like Fates and Three Houses where there are very few unique maps between the differing routes.

I love PoR despite its technical flaws. It has very fun mechanics and some pretty good maps with interesting side objectives. Cast is a little weak relatively, but there are some lovable scamps. SD is like the very definition of mid. It's a solid example of core FE gameplay, but it doesn't really do any one thing particularly better than other games. Good experience for someone looking to explore the whole series for sure.

I think shadow dragon is a pretty below average FE, it doesn't do anything gameplaywise that NM didn't do a lot better, and its higher difficulties are some of the most obviously-not-properly-playtested modes in the series only truly comparable with awakening lunatic+, they're not very fun to play and not even due to being too difficult or anything, they're just very poorly balanced

All I can say is I had a lot of fun playing Shadow Dragon. I had more fun playing H5 Shadow Dragon than I had playing on the max difficulty on New Mystery. H5 Shadow Dragon is so much more fair. You can actually level your units.

Shadow dragon is miserable imo, lots of sluggish maps and you are encouraged to spam effective weapons throughout the game that really simplify the gameplay. There are a couple of cool concepts that kaga was cooking up and you can see the bones of other fire emblem games in shadow dragon, but thats about the extent of the novelty. I ended up warp skipping a lot of the maps desu.

its decent. very similar to engage actually where you have lots of stat manipulating items and the home base is expansive and you can do repositioning tricks with shove/rescue/canter and some characters have personal skills. The map scenarios have a lot of variety and none of them except serenes forest feel samey. if you like OP mounted units then its one of a kind and you will adore it.

Is it really too many? It's just static recoloring. You're not actually changing the sprites or their characterization or their hairstyles, etc... like it's not a major overhaul. It's just a dice roll for hair color, eye color, and accessory coloration of the outfit that bases itself on the aforementioned.
Too many variables is more like the character's history, their supports, their figure, their default class (and sprite outfit), their hairstyle, etc... all changes to match the pairing. THAT's overkill.
All I'm asking for is a fun little color fusion. ChromxCordelia? Hypothetically, obviously. Severa? Maybe she gets blue hair, maybe she gets red hair, or maybe purple? Maybe she gets blue eyes, maybe she gets red eyes, maybe she gets purple eyes? Then depending on which two colors those roll as, her shield and little bowtie will roll to match one (or both) of those.

In Engage, I usually give it to Alear. In Fates, it usually goes to Corrin. In FE3 it's best to use the first Knight's Proof on Cain or Abel, I'd say. In FE4 the common choice is Asvel. In FE9 and FE10 I use them to save one level of EXP. It's not very significant, but neither is money in those games. I think Birthright is more or less a standard FE plot, which you'll see in Awakening, PoR, Engage. It's Conquest that's really fucking stupid as suddenly the player is on the side of the invaders. Can you imagine a writing team that's been doing nothing but "standard hero travels around the world gathering allies to defeat big bad invaders" for 20 or so fucking years suddenly developing the narrative chops to depict a game from the invaders' point of view? I have forgotten the main details but I still remember the biggest problem with Fates: Conquest. The reason behind the invasion of Hoshido is because Corrin knows the Nohr king's true form is a demon, and he wants the Nohr king to sit on Hoshido's throne, which will expose his inner demonic self to everyone. Dunno about you but I couldn't take the game seriously after this, and bear in mind, I am perfectly okay with a barebones plot.

Aside from the visuals and narrative impact, Emblems are essentially an iteration on battalions. But the overall structure of the game is quite standard. Every game that anon listed as experimental has unique structure (idk if it's fair to list Echoes among this though since it's a remake and not treading new ground as a result). I'd call Fates experimental for its three versions however.

No other game in the series has gaidens that unlock based upon how many holy ghosts you've unlocked, the completion of which rewards the holy ghosts with stronger stats and skills. No other game except 3H, which came directly before it, has the intensive base farming crap. There's nothing structurally standard about it at all. No other game makes its playable cast essentially worthless without one of said holy ghosts equipped to them.

"gaidens unlock under specific conditions" was done in 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16. Base farming crap was in Fates and 3H so that's no longer experimental either. I think you're giving this too much of a surface level evaluation.
Ring distribution isn't even nearly as damning as you think either, pretty much every unit can always contribute something, and secondary staff/thoron users aren't hurting for rings regardless even in endgame. Even if a unit WAS hurting for the lack of a ring, that's hardly experimental, you might as well consider it the same as games with limited promotion item availability.

No character/unit is really an entity by itself. Instead the entire cast and class system is balanced around this dualistic unit concept that is fluid and malleable. Louis-Sigurd is a different unit from Louis-Lyn, or Louis-Celica.
It's Heroes mobage shit leaking into mainline, and it's highly unusual - not a return to form and not anything we've seen previously.
