Yeah, it's mostly fear of hips and butts in character creators.
Aside from thigh thickness and hip width, a big mistake devs make is not treating butt cheeks as a specific thing in development like they do with boobs. This means that you can barely shape/alter butts in the way you want.

I remember really appreciating blade and soul's character creator because they let you mess with sliders to an extreme.
I distinctly remember seeing one character who was short, round and morbidly obese looking. It was really funny

A full range of male and female body types and presets to work from.

GOOD face presets for every race that would reasonably be in the setting to work from.

Better hair, and a full range of hairstyles not old or new styles people like IRL but styles that make sense for the setting (unless the setting is modern or semi-modern, etc).

Secondlife has the best character creation you will get in any game whatsoever. Every possibility is open to you.

on the other hand the gameplay is just erp, dressup, and afk and it costs money and a lot of time/effort/IQ to even get into it or get started.

It's a damn shame, but I'm mentioning it since it knocks 1 part of your criteria out of the water, even if it fails on the other.

Here's my general goals starting any game. I've gone through the process enough that I'm pretty specific about it.
Male:
>Long green hair
>Muscular, but more dexfag build, medium height
>A bit pinkish skin with freckles if available
>Armor that has green accents
>Polearm, fast sword, or bow
Female:
>Black pigtails that start low on the head
>Skinny, but slightly muscular, flat or small breasts, 4'9 is the ideal height
>Very light tan, dark eye color
>Barefoot with a light dress and maybe some armor
>Heavy weapons or magic user
How come there are barely any games that let you make two characters with a lot of customization and have them get married? I don't want your shitty developer-made waifus damnit!

This is at risk of just creating a porn game but I routinely see women IRL (who aren't obese, maybe just a bit healthily chubby) that have lower bodies that are genuinely twice as big as the biggest-butt video game woman. Women have a huge variety of lower body sizes and yet it's just absent from games. We've gone from stick model bodytypes to surfing board bodytypes as if that's fixed everything and it's just unrealistic.

This has pissed me off for like 20 years.
I first got pissed off with it in Oblivion because you couldn't make an actually black Redguard, they all looked like weird blotchy messes. But Oblivion at least had white as fuck people.

The nice thing about secondlife is that, because it's partly a modding/creation engine, you can just arbitrarily edit this stuff yourself, tinting things, adding your own textures, etc.

If you wanna be vantablack you can do it, even if nobody sells a skin like that.

The character creation is unparalleled, it just comes alongside being very unintuitive and the rest of the game being pretty boring/hard to get into.

There's genuinely no excuse for any modern game to have a character creator less complex than Body Slide mod for Skyrim. If some random guys in their basement can do it, there's zero reason billion dollar companies shouldn't be doing it.

the goal of character creation is to locate the optimal waifu that exists within the games possibilities. by finding her you can be said to have won the first minigame and progress to the real game.
the more options you have, the longer it takes to progress through every iteration to look for her.
whats worse is that with complex sliders you cannot even attempt to steer yourself towards the optimal configuration in the mind since different combinations of different sliders can sometimes have a seemingly similar effect on the character model, but result in strange and unnatural angles or light interaction in game. This requires you to have to check in game and then back to the sliders over and over to locate the best wife.
The illusion of freedom sliders provide is actually enslavement.
It would be far better for a game to provide a few optimally crafted options to pick from, then choosing the best one is easy.
