It should strike a good balance. A remake should be 1:1 with the original for the most part, but it should also add new content that adds more to the overall experience. Like the postgame in SMRPG and the extra bosses in TTYD.

Just give me the equivalent of the Gamecube REmake

Remakes and remasters should keep what's good, clean/tweak what was rough, and add small bits of content that fit with the original. They shouldn't swap genres entirely, change how the gameplay works, redo the story, or try to replace what was good.

And, if all else fails, simply port the game to modern platforms with new settings for improved resolution, frame rate, and changeable keybindings. There are so many games where I'd kill to just have a functional port on a system that doesn't struggle to exist after 15+ years since release.

Remakes can be good, just not when it comes to games.

The issue is most (like i don't even know of a single one desu) remasters/remakes have no real reason to exist in terms of game preservation/improvement. Given that your picture makes sense.

Remakes and remasters are about the most retarded trend on the market and so are faggots who buy them. We have modders who fix dozens of bugs, give games new renderers, make them work with high resolution and framerate, improve compability, upgrade the graphics and add new content all for free, meanwhile companies want full price for a widescreen patch, completely ruined artstyle, censorship, worse performance and new bugs/glitches.
Only remaster I actually approve of is the Intravenous 1 remaster because the dev is based and clearly wanted to use what he learned to improve the first game and have it take advantage of the features in the sequel

For me personally, if they're going to remake the fucking game with tens of millions in core development, they should take creative liberties and expand on it and even tweak some parts that haven't aged well. Whiny pissants can just play the original. Having said that, asking for remakes in the current political climate is not a good idea. Maybe when things settle down.
