yeah, the problem with ff13 is it gives you systems you dont have to use. it's not really hard enough to require stacking your paradigm deck with redundant paradigms so you can switch to them faster from the top or bottom of the list; nor do you really have to optimize damage by having, eg, com-rav-rav, rav-rav-rav, and com-com-com. like, you can get by easily with just com-rav-rav, have one of them swap to heal or debuff as needed. sure, you can play the game that way. but you won't be five-starring every single encounter after archylte if you play that way, and you probably will have trouble toppling even a young adamntoise before you're well into the postgame.
a lot of people don't even really know how stagger works
>com, sab "maintain" stagger - prevent it from decaying - but you only need 1-2 hits to lock in slow stagger decay
>rav builds stagger - drives the number higher
so you want to start battles as com-rav-rav (or sab-rav-rav) depending on the encounter), anim cancel swap after first com hit to rav-rav-rav, then go all out com-com-com once they stagger.
another fun thing you can do is swapping paradigms and classes in the middle of character-specific overdrives. so for example, lightning's army of one is only available when she is ravager, so naturally it builds huge stagger while she's damaging the enemy during that animation. but you can paradigm shift in the middle of it. so what you do is get stagger to like 98-99%, set off army of one, then p-shift to have lightning be a commando - now each of army of one uses her commando attack rating, plus the bonus stagger damage

but again, do you ever NEED to do any of this shit during normal gameplay? no. it's needed for postgame hunts but most people are burnt out by the time they get to that stuff, if they do. that's the problem with this game - too many of its systems are only needed for postgame content.
