Why do you still not own a VR headset?
What is your excuse? An used meta quest 2 is extremely cheap and will give you access to the definitive gaming experience.
>it's a gimmick! it's just two screens attached to your eyes!
Honestly the gimmick is more the motion controls than the screens being close to your eyes.

There is literally only two games over the past decade worth getting on VR:

> Beat Saber
> Superhot VR

And one of those isn't exclusive to VR (Superhot, Superhot: Mind Control Delete).

It's not worth the $600 for two (2) titles.

Spoken like someone that did not try VR. There's Skyrim, Fallout 4, Half Life Alyx, Resident Evil 4, ah fuck whatever I won't type a list of 50 games.

I'd also point that shovelware is super fun in VR. Some of my favorite games ended up being a table tennis simulator, a golf simulator, a painting game, a game where you solve 3D puzzles. VR surprises you with how much fun it is to play any game really

the entry point to VR does not ask much, if you want the best resolutions and FPS of course you will need top tier hardware though but there is nothing wrong with jank, that's how standalone works and it's what 99% people use

I bought an old PSVR to try out recently, my first headset. You can get them for $40 now so I figured why not? Why not is they're too much hassle. I know all the latest hardware is a lot nicer, and some of the games are pretty cool, but they have not yet solved any of the fundamental issues associated with strapping a big box to your head. 10+ years in this is still early adopter tech. Also, you look ridiculous while using it. If I wasn't a loser living alone, I wouldn't have even spent the $40. The target demographic for this tech must incredibly small. How many people are willing to look like a goofball and also have several hundred dollars to spend on a modern system? They couldn't even market 3DTV and that just required some glasses.

honestly this is possibly the best time to get in VR, nearly all games are available in the meta ecosystem which is super easy to pirate

soon VR will face the same problem of streaming and every company will have their own exclusives because the only way to make the headsets not cost $1000 is to recoup losses from selling apps

>>718931972
The Wii has an accelerometer and with the motion + it has a gyroscope on one controller.
That is not enough for more than a very basic version of Beatsaber that would only consider which direction you swing in.
>Maybe it'd need a better sensor and slightly different controllers
It's almost like VR controllers evolved from Wiimotes after years of new tech or something. VR controllers have full 6DoF tracking, the Wii does not.
>>718932552
If it were that easy and cheap, then more 6DoF systems would exist and OpenHMD would have had flawless compatibility with all headsets.

The Wii works by having the wii mote fire a light that is picked up by the sensor you place under the TV, meaning it only works if you are pointing the controller directly at the screen, other than that it has the most basic bitch ass gyroscope ever, I have no idea why you think this could work for beatsaber

VR actually uses a similar principle but the sensors are way more plentiful and positioned in a better angle

Beat Saber for the Wii would require buying sensor stations and placing them around your area, just imagine how retarded that would be

It's just a lot of added steps compared to playing flat screen games. You gotta plug the headset in, and it fits better with a baseball cap so I go get a hat before I put it on. Most games are sit-down but to play Farpoint I have to move my sofa. After playing my hair is messed up, I'd basically have to take a shower to fix it if I want to leave the house afterward.

Genuinely isn't but let's see what is going on in your case

Or maybe you could just adjust the strap to fit your head? Might be a PSVR problem if you can't adjust it

>Most games are sit-down
What? The only sit-down game I have ever played in VR is Poker and some racing games. You can play anything standing (it's more immersive) but you can also play most games sitting if you want.

I own three different headsets and two sets of trackers and there really isn't much of a point right now. The biggest issue with VR is half of the games are ports, and the others are fine but they're just bland or uninspired. The fact of the matter is VR is and always will be niche unless we have full dive VR which is likely never going to happen so that means almost all games are practically going to be half baked messes either not designed for VR, or designed for VR but by devs attempting and failing to fix the core issues of VR. Also given you already need a powerful computer rig to use VR and the desire of most gamers to have better and better graphics I just don't see most people forking over the cash for a higher quality VR headset AND $4000+ PC for a game that looks almost identical to PEAK but runs at 20 FPS on a good day with sporadic bursts of 60 FPS.

To recap:
>Too expensive for the externals (even basic ones)
>Too expensive for performant hardware
>Games are either ports not designed around VR or poorly optimized VR games
>Games of the latter category are often compromised in some way or glorified tech demos

Again a problem of expectations. I've been saying this itt but you need to view VR as a different hobby unaffiliated with mainstream gaming. Sometimes I want to play the newest AAAslop with top tier graphics, other times I want to move my body, play table tennis, swordfight, race and so on. They are not replacements for each other.

The only games that VR is unquestionably "worth it" for alone are sims IMO. They're usually well optimized for VR and when a headset is replacing three specially arranged monitors and potentially some extra tracking gear it's actually the easier option. Plus a seated position and Wheel/Hotas fix a lot of VR issues generally.

Yeah, I get that. I was really responding only after reading the first ~10 posts but this seemingly always comes up that some weird die hards will say it's comparable to normal gaming when it's almost a parallel hobby with insane investment costs up front and devs that don't always actually understand how to make use of it which is going to take a long time I reckon to fix.
>>718936106
Honestly this. I've had a better experience using VR in stuff like Assetto Corsa and IL-2 than any true VR game because it gives me proper situational awareness and doesn't rape my GPU trying to do basic tasks because most devs are hacks.
