Definitely
Game has great combat and you can do a lot with the materia system.
The game is definitely on rails at times, but its worth it to get through it. Frequently change characters in combat to use their unique abilities, and check out hard mode once you've beaten it. Removes the ability to use items and casually regenerate MP.

would you say the original is better?

Its pretty redundant and more of a fan cd for people who played the original.
I don't think it was worth the time, its devoid of artistic intent but if you see it as a Kingdom Hearts world with a FFVII theme I think you can derive mild amusment from it.
I think you're better off playing a game that has its own identity and reason for existing essentially.

Like what?

Yes, in almost every way. FF7 remake is not a final fantasy game. It's story is much more childish, the pacing is worse, there's no turn based content, and no fixed camera. Just play the original if you haven't already.

Hard to say. FF7 is classic, but I also feel like it drops off a steep quality cliff after disc 1, and it essentially fast tracks to the end.
Remake gives OG 7 a ton of reverence, particularly the opening section of FF7 (Midgar), which honestly is an incredibly iconic start to a video game.
If you pick up FF7 now, your characters are mostly blank slates that are fairly interchangeable, with minor nuance. Your ability to build the characters in Remake is better imo, and they all truly play different, which I greatly appreciate. You will also get a lot more of a challenge from Remake in hard mode, but that also stems from the nature of the game. Remake is a great addition to 7 imo, but I would advise you to play a modded 7 first if you've never played 7.

What mods should I use?

Download the 7th Heaven mod manager.
From there, I'd say the following list is pretty great, though I'm not a fan of the day/night mod. It serves no purpose other than to make certain areas ugly at night

The only JRPG I've ever refunded. And I'm a big FF7 fan. It's just nonsensical fanfic with AAA slop mechanics. None of the FF7 magic present.

Yeah but maybe wishlist it and wait for a 50% discount, it is on discount regularly
As a game it is pretty good, i like to see them the same as trails in the sky FC and SC. The first game is to set up things, introduce characters, the battle system and how the general trilogy will work, and then in rebirth things are set up in motion and drastically improves on the previous entry.
Just keep in mind that it is a linear, story-focused so it is not like mission or based or open word like other recent RPGs games.

I might be one of the few that played FFIV as a kid and now, and i never understood the hype or the love for it. It has really cool moments, but overrall i think it is pretty meh.
