I think moving to Linux really removed the flair. It's just not as easy getting VR working on Nobara, but I always have a windows drive I can easily pop in for games.
It's genuinely kino for watching movies, though. I really need to start doing that again soon with shows/anime too.
I reckon the older versions of The Long Drive in VR are also really worthy of any anon's time. Current one just has really fucky pseudo-motion controls that use both controllers and it doesn't really work, even with time spent rebinding. The OG VRTest version in the betas maintains you using a mouse+keyboard, but actually it feels fucking great and it's intuitive and nice, great to watch something while you're just passively driving.

Cheapest is kkcobvr, and I use velcro to strap battery packs for the phone on it. 20000mah adds like 4 hours per pack. After about a year they start to have problems and will need to add another one to the rotation.

Check out team beef mods, but of you want real (game) graphics you need a pc. For single player games pcvr is king. Most multiplayer games have anticheat so modding them into vr is usually out of the question.

You might like breachers for standalone pvp as well. And as far as contractors, you want the first game not showdown (for the mods) but has devolved into halo vr basically

Download raipal. It will tell you what games you have that are compatible with mods. Imo dont bother with the unity injector, it's noy ready (rai pal creator made that mod) and focus on uevr. Uevr feels almost like native vr with the config file for motion controls (available from the flat2vr discord) for each game

whoever using any Chink headstraps, don't forget to lock the circular hinge on the halo part(like half of them have a hinge and folds at the middle)
The Chinks have absolutely no concept of Physics, so they added a hinge on a what should be a stiff halo strap that balances the headset's weight to the back side of your head.
Without locking this hinge with a brace(I use a peice of wood and duck tape) or whatever that can make it stiff enough so it doesn't fold in half on it's own weright, the counter weight on the back of you head will be meaningless.

I ended up getting a Quest 3 to replace my Index for a couple reasons

1. Easy wireless setup to PCVR
2. All the fucking VR games coming out are either exclusive to Quest, or take months to get from Quest to PC

Still annoyed Capcom's a douche about porting their VR modes off of PSVR1/2 though. I can play OG RE4 in VR on my Quest, but I can't play REmake4 in VR on my PC officially.

But I do recognise that there's issues with what the market is like right now and Meta doing numerous things that have actually hurt the medium, and more specifically PCVR. Their ecosystem split the market up too much. Made sure most games weren't available on Steam etc. If I could improve VR it would be stopping Meta's interference in everything and having a stranglehold on triple A studios. I tried a quest halo strap and hated it. It wasn't just head shape, though if you have a steep brow it's probably better and a sloped brow it's probably worse. But it would always feel like it was trying to slip off. Grip surface didn't matter because it would grip your hair but your hair would slide on your scalp. It's fine for simming but seated play but if you are playing some melee game go with a clamshell/elite. It also had too many adjustment points and it was hard to handle the strap without moving something you didn't want to adjust. It needs to be a premium one where you can lock shit. But I don't see a reason not to use a normal clamshell. You fold it on its one hinge and keep it on the same tightness setting and you're in. It's snug on your face so you can whip around and everything stays fine. Use a battery pack in the back and you don't have to tighten the headstrap too much to prevent it from sagging. Keep your top strap on and load it.

Quest 4 is delayed indefinitely (so they can push subsidized ar glasses at 800$) Deckard is expected mid to late 2026. Deckard is the game changer for standalone. A full generation upgrade in processing. So if you can't spend more than 1k$ a year for something "gaming" (gaming only get 20% of my headset time) then waiting for Deckard may be best bet. I used to travel non stop (literally every day) cause I couldn't stand being in one spot. Like I get antsy and shit. Since I got vr 80% of that urge is gone. Mostly by using 1 of my ultrawides as a virtual window using wallpaper engine that let's you use dynamic wallpapers and videos stuff. Almost feels like I'm staring out of a window in these locations. Technically yes but it's unavoidable. I leave my headset charging 24/7. I hit swap batteries. Usually it doesn't become an issue unless I dont swap in time and drain the regular battery. It "needs" to be withing the last 2 gens of batteries as far as charging speed goes (for quest 3 and maybe the newest pico) because it will drain faster than it charges, significantly if less than 20-30w. I get that argument about not enough games, but what games you do get nothing played on a monitor can remotely compete

For example, playing the entire Half-Life 2 series was WAY more exciting in VR. The beginning when you're running through the hallways with the Combine close on your tail is far better when you're IN the hallways.

But where I've enjoyed it most is world exploring using the various programs and methods. Wander lets me immediately skip to any place on the planet (360 google street view). I can go into a museum in Malta, the International Space Station, the most impoverished parts of Africa, a park in North Korea, or all the places I grew up.

I also pay various people for both 180 and 360 3D 8k quality videos. I've never been to Japan, but I've used the tech so much to see it, I'm almost getting tired of it.

And the tech is getting better. Meta is working on a new prototype that will cover 180degrees (90% your field of view) and double the resolution (4k per eye as opposed to Quest 3 2k per eye).

Blackmagic has a new 180 3D VR camera that is 16k! (8k per eye).

I also have a few video player apps where I can watch 3D 1080 movies on smaller screens which looks better than a 3D TV (Bigscreen) or 4k regular movies in several different movie theaters (VR Moon)

With work discounts, I got all this for $350. So yeah, I'd say it was a fucking deal.

The free one is iw3, with some newer ai models added (distilled large, if beefy gpu. The mod range distilled if not i forgot what it's called might be distilled b. Thats the fast one). Not much more comfortable. However on the Pico 4 (I guess depending on your face), you'd need a lot of pressure to make sure light from behind you doesn't leak into your headset. That one is pretty good to avoid leaks. But it ain't much more comfortable (it's just a bit softer, so it doesn't create as much pressure) and honestly I'm always getting stupidly sweaty after a session and it's not getting any better. That interface has some vents and they do fuck all because there's always fog on the lenses and they get stupidly dirty. I guess I'll have to blame myself on that but I don't think it's much worse to use the original stuff.
But in regards to R&D, if Pico 4 is tested by asians, it might not fit someone like me. I know my nose doesn't love this headset. Nah I had the sweat problem before the battery. I think the weight from the battery isn't much of a problem actually.
It's not possible to fix the nose thing. The interface at the bottom has this part that can touch the nose bridge and I could maybe sand it or cut it, but even then the opening where the nose is supposed to go through is a bit too narrow. What that's causing is that that's ever so slightly blocking my nostrils.
From what I've heard the quest 3 is better at this but I wanted to save some money and get a good enough headset for 300€. Next one I grab I will have to physically try first. If I want to avoid what I cannot possibly change basically, I'll have to make sure that the strap lifts the headset just enough that it doesn't cause me much trouble there, and lose some visibility when looking down. Of course it's also impossible to move the lenses.

There's also a SHIT load of UEVR games on PC, I played Borderlands 2 and Ace Combat 7 on my Q3, it was fucking amazing basically any unreal engine game can be run in VR, don't know the specific. Some people are also porting classic games like Quake and shit to the Q3, they have a discord but I don't remember the name. There's also EmuVR, which emulates lightgun iirc

The game is called vrigade and vr brigade (same game but name change for some reason) 1 and 2. Basically time crisis with roomscale dodge. Hard on the knees/glutes. The. Theres a pvp one for like 7$ on standalone. Similar concept, uses xr and physical things in your room to hide behind. Same devs as the cabin/drop dead. Been in my backlog haven't tried it.

Dark games and sitting games psvr 2 (they just added eye tracking support and I think hdr in a community driver). Quest 3 for anything pvp or requires standing and moving

I think the quest 3 with a halo strap is the only one that does t touch your nose or cheeks (if removing the facial interface). The psvr 1 had a removable gasket so there's a small chance the psvr 2 one is removable

Its probably not easy plus no virtual desktop (i doubt the desktop version which is old af has the multi monitors). So you're limited to steamvr for everything. Better functionality options but quality of their "monitors" (in steam vr) is looking 10x lower.

The main issue people have enough with psvr 2 is if they have the wrong type of Bluetooth

The low refresh rate of VR absolutely sucks too. Not immersive at all when it's all lagging behind me while feeling fake. Not much different to having a painting strapped to my eyes.

I've tried virtual desktop and my issue is mostly with framerates. I'll be playing something locked to 30fps and it's unsmooth as fuck, even though it's looking fine on my monitor.
