>RNG makes the ball fall in between the flippers and it's impossible to save it
This is why they make money in the arcade and people can't hog the machine forever.
It's a great game design.
You can play safe and try to prevent that as much as possible, but playing the same pinball machine over and over does get boring.
I played the South Park one a lot and was pretty good at it.
Do you hold the button in hopes that it improves your Match RNG?

God full tilt is a piece of absolute shit. You can even see at 2:49 the magnet is misaligned so you'll never land any shots into the dragon's mouth. Space Cadet is about the only tolerable one and even then it's not great.
Full tilt 2 is even worse about stuff like this and is frankly unplayable. You'll miss so many shots you think should be very easy because the design feels like it was completely untested.

Pinball Arcade
unfortunately they lost the license to the tables so can't buy it anymore, need to pirate it... but has only the best tables, like hundreds of them, it's insane
the license went to some chinese low-effort sweat shop cash-grab which makes Pinball FX3 and has like 20-30% of the good tables from Pinball Arcade but the rest are meme shit (like Marvel, Family Guy etc)
of course there are other games with specific tables and fantasies but they almost never take the issue of physics seriously, like the two I enumerated, nor do they serve you an explanation on a platter to the question "why people like pinball"

I dont know maybe something like the Champion's pub that has clear narrative objectives to what you are doing as you improve your character and its not just pure point chasing on the surface? (its still pint chasing under the hood though)

A modern table that doesnt kill you and lets you play for 20 minutes at a time will teach bad habits and might not let you enjoy the fast as fuck "its been 2 minutes and you already drained all three balls tables" of old that can also be really fun
Maybe try videogame pinball like pokemon , metroid or xenotilt before trying real table sims?

There's a few tables where I can hit one ramp or shot without issue every single time, (for instance the Striker shot on World Cup 94, or the shock chair mode selector on Addam's Family,) but then struggle with other shots. dangers are tilt warnings, modern machines let you nudge them to save the balls up to 2 times per ball, the third time the flippers die and you lose the ball

Im not a pro but all you can do is practice either use art cues to know when to shoot as the ball rolls down the flipper or timing cues and remember than how fast the ball is rolling down the flipper will make it go in different directions even when hit at the same spot
Other than that think of outlane drains as a punishment for not making a shot, its when you miss that the ball goes crazy, it helped me be less frustrated as I started seeing it as my fault more

attack from mars and medieval wars are beloved classics that are very easy to understand.
"just hit the lit up stuff" is the most basic advice that pretty much always applies, although many tables are somehow still complicated as hell even with that principle.
a lot of the modern digital-only tables like on FX are pretty good for beginners and easy to figure the modes and shots (such as Dreamworks Trolls). although they often aren't really my favourite tables.

the most basic aiming people talk about is like measure on the flipper like "half way" or '3/4s shot', although you need to be pretty precise, and using the art work as a cue like other anon said.
easiest to cradle the ball as much as you can before shooting it, so the ball is always rolling at a consistent speed down the flipper.

It seems like it should be obvious, but I only just recently learned that you need to hit the flipper when the ball lines up with a color coded line. Especially with secondary flippers, like the Rudy shot in Funhouse, and etc..

There was that unreleased movie-based table based on a movie I never heard about, Krull. Thankfully hobbyists were able to recreate the test unit playfield and copy their ROM because it's a pretty cool table. I want to watch it one day.

a lot of real classic pinball machines are very rare and cost like 20k dollars and don't even work you sperg
games that just make simulations of existing pinball machines are great and there's nothing wrong with them faggot
are you going to say tabeltop simulator is shit because 90% of the workshop is recreations of real tabletop games and that it should only be games that could only be done virtually? you hate preservation nigger?

For tables based on VG franchises, I'd kinda like to see Mega Man. Modes can vary from each game, ramps and shots can be different robot masters, culminating in Wily Castle specials, like multiball, or wizard modes, etc.. If nothing else, the table would have great music to choose from.

"medieval madness" is the gold standard... unfortunately its designer killed himself
"creature from the black lagoon" is a more classic take... unfortunately its designer got jailed for cheese pizza
once you get a little experience with either, check out tables like "arabian nights" which is probably my favorite table from that era (action but also rules and story)... and fortunately its designer is fine & dandy (he also designed theatre of magic
& cirqus voltaire which some prefer to arabian nights but for me it's the little golden-skinned cinnamon-laced slave girl)

"centaur" and "fathom" are probably what everybody thinks about when he or she hears pinball but never looked into it... they are also great tables, really really lovely, centaur was even re-issued recently... it's probably THE pinball table and it's also beginner friendly
I'd also put "xenon" in this category, although it's a bit more of a gimmick-table not really optimized for exploration and bettering yourself... "el dorado" and its clones is cool too

between the two eras I told you above, there are several good tables: high speed, high speed 2, pin-bot, jack-bot... the last one really pays homage to the gambling themed tables of the early '70s and I love it

these should give you a good start... and don't forget: if you don't have a table you love, love the table you have

Why haven't EA, Microsoft and Stern collaborated on making Space Cadet a real, physical table at this point? You'd have to shift some parts around to get it to play right, but there's nothing strictly impossible about it anymore, with the right engineering. It seems like a no brainer.

yes they are expensive because they are meant to be exploited (earning you $$$) 24/7 and be easily repairable by a trade school electrician (which probably needs to be done every week to every three months depending how many people rape it)
"it's the same as buying a commercial van" is the closest comparison I can come up with except a van costs 2x or 3x as much... from that perspective it IS (or at least used to be) a great investment
not even arcade video games were able to beat it because repairing them took too long and was too expensive
