It is if you have the right exercises, but almost nobody is going to give you the right plan unless they also started as a toothpick. It's like for myself I started at 90kg and people were recommending bodyweight routines for me, it's so stupid it's insane.
Tips I found easiest to push through as a heavy guy:
- if the exercise sucks for you, feel free to ignore it and find another that targets the same muscle groups (for me this was basically all bodyweight and things like lunges which are awkward and feel horrible if you're a beginner)
- there are top tier exercises but you mostly have to work first before they will be effective. Dips, deadlift, OHP, pull-ups will be ineffective without some supporting muscle. You could get away with doing dips and pull-ups as a lighter guy but you won't be building that much muscle
- if you can afford it, get a personal trainer for a little while to teach you correct form. This saves a huge amount of time wondering if the diagrams you saw online are being followed correctly. At my gym people don't interact much except to spot so this was valuable for me
- if your muscles are hurting after a few days you overdid it, lower the weight for a week and try again the week after. You will be sore but if you feel like you couldn't do at least 2 sessions a week you overdid it. This is the easiest way to figure out progression
Good luck
