You can base near anywhere including portal worlds thanks to teleporting. Early on you'll want to setup near some water source, but after you unlock personal teleporters, you can build a home anywhere you like the look of that has at least one power outlet. I still move every two to three sectors when I find a nice enough looking spot

Echoing what the other anons said, I'd set your xp at 1.5 to 2x since you won't have the individuals specializing in different skills that a full team would. The combat is MUCH better solo as well since the game becomes a complete cakewalk the moment two players work together. Don't take the trait that cripples your combat skills

I liked the game, took me over 50 hours to finally finish it, but the ending was only so-so. I immediately pegged Cahn as the shapeshifter the moment I saw him. It made doing all the main story agonizing because the whole time I'm stuck doing what the game tells me to do even though I know it's a terrible idea.

I guess the main message was, all this shit was going to happen anyways so none of this matters. but it's still a little unsatisfying. There were so many things that felt like they'd open up, but didn't I swear 50% of the locked doors are red herrings. Maybe I wasn't thorough enough but there were so many shutter doors still closed at the end and entire wings I could see through but couldn't find any evidence of actually being able to get there. Flathill especially, because there's this giant figure you can see behind the dead soldier at the start. You can find this wall that takes thermite to open, and I thought that it would be really cool to go back through an old portal with advanced gear to explore the rest of it, but it's literally just a machine that turns the rotten corn you get in Canaan into... normal corn.

There was also this whole underwater place in hydroplant and another thermite wall you could see from the other side of labs that I never found. I felt like I was pretty thorough, so maybe they're going to add more shit?

It's almost certainly Global Illumination and Shadows doing that if you have an older card or AMD card since they're using Lumen(Gaytracing) for the higher settings. Ticking it down to medium will probably fix it

Normal attacks with heavy weps are slow, yes, but the main reason they are used is when you get the strength perk for sprint attacks (strength lvl 5 iirc) the attack is instant, point blank and there is a humoungous damage multiplier. Many enemies can be one shotted with a good sprint attack

I just like the 1 ingrediant and done deal with it. I cook fancier stuff when I have the time but most of the time Im just trying to make a quick pitstop and get back out there. My main stews are sustenance and tomato and I eat one or the other depending on if I need more thirst or hunger.
I just dont pick up meat anymore really. Saves invetory space, rads, and general headacheness of it.

Also, eating enough military arms should unlock the cannibal trait and cannibal recipes.
