you dont NEED 9 star parents
you go for 8 since that's way easier to make. 7 if you don't have a 3 star spark.
Focus on the blue sparks (stats) you want and only breed in grandparents that also have the pink sparks you want (long,turf).
Sort through your stock and see which one fits the bill. Check your 3 star horses first if you have any and see if they'll be good. If not then just make a 7 star one. For grandparents borrowing makes getting the designated blue and pink sparks way easier.
I wouldn't worry too much about abilities, but borrowing can also help with that to grandfather in the ones with the abilties already on there.
URA Finale is great to have but it's not mandatory by any means. Blue sparks are the most important first and foremost. Getting Long s is important. You need those the most.

^ look up what you need, use the affinity chart to ensure you wind up with double affinity by the end and that will make your inspirations even better.
If you dont want to bother with breeding then just keep doing random runs. It's not mandatory, it's there to give you more control over the rng and increase things in your favor. If you're having trouble hitting the stats you want, you might need to just make some better parents and use borrows wisely
