Is it worth it to get one of these for fighting games? I've never been able to get into the genre, mostly owing to the atrocious D-Pads on Sony/Nintendo/MS first party controllers. I was holding off to get the Switch 2 pro controller but I hear it doesn't even pass the Contra test

It's a dpad sensitivity test. Can't find an example but here it is with mario maker and the switch 2 pro controller

I have one of these, it's alright, note the face buttons are microswitched, the dpad is not. The dpad is fine but worse than the series x one. Also, the series x dpad is fucking great, what the fuck are you on about. So unless you need the six buttons for street fighter or whatever stick to the series x controller.

I have two of those one for ps and xbox. It's good I like the dpad but everyone on here seems to shit on it lol so it's just my singular guilty pleasure. I play a number of fighting games and I could do like 50 ewgfs in a row on this thing.

Well it's obviously totally subjective but there's basically three things that make me dislike the D-Pad on first party Sony controllers

>mushy materials(the Vita was ok in this regard but it's not a controller)
>membrane switches instead of mechanical(to be fair almost no first party controller has mechanical switches)
>D-Pad is just one big piece with a pivot, which makes it possible to hit directions you have not touches at all

To their credit I've never had a problem with durability, my Dualshock 4 is over 10 years old and my DS3 is closer to 20 and neither of them have had any failure point, and I'm not careful with them at all

L1 + R2 > 6 face buttons in fighting games desu. You can use more than one finger on buttons in the arcade, limiting yourself to just a thumb to use a similar layout on a controller is dumb.

Mechanical dpads are a dogshit shenzen meme bingzhouwuluang uses to sell you trash.

Also worth noting is that the newest version of this controller has different style dpads. Don't have it but I'm already fine with the regular old style.

I just put macros on the extra face buttons. Guilty queer pride dash macro goes on RT and RC goes on RB for example

I agree with your point about having access to more fingers, the main problem is that the triggers on stock controllers are analog and have a long ass actuation trajectory
>Mechanical dpads are a dogshit shenzen meme bingzhouwuluang uses to sell you trash.
Couldn't disagree more, at a minumum they feel way better to use. It's always weird to me that people seem to like mechanical switches for the face buttons and membrane for the D-Pad, when for me it's the total opposite.

Mechanical switches are just too heavy for a controller and they actuate entirely too high in their massive travel distance, imo. On a dpad or face buttons, I just want a extraordinarily light press with no detent, particularly on a dpad where I'm often going to need to press more than one contact at once. There is a clunkiness that comes with mechanical switches that completely ruin the feeling of pad in my experience.

Nta, for fighting games specifically I much prefer the mushiness of a membrane dpad since half the time I'm not actually pressing on it, I'm just rolling my thumb on it to get the motions I want and this is a lot more comfy (and optimal?) for extended play. And then I want the tactile clickiness on my face buttons because I'm actually pressing them unlike the dpad.

I use it for Tekken and I find the dpad to be pretty good

Just buy an arcade stick and play the way it's meant to be
(Ignore the hitbox faggots that will quote me)

It's funny how all these super serious PRO controllers put a shitton of emphasis on the analog stick sensors when realistically there's next to zero application to having high performing sticks. Like even games that are considered to have precise 3D movement like Mario 64 can be played just fine with fairly sloppy analog movement, honestly the whole stick drift issue would be totally solved by simply setting more generous deadzone levels(this is why PS2 and Gamecube pads never drifted, they were using the same shitty physical sensors that controllers nowadays have).

The whole thing became a problem because manufacturers reduced the deadzone to near zero levels because that was expected to give players more precise right analog aiming in FPS games, when aiming with analogs is comically imprecise to begin with and only functions because the games have a hardcoded aimbot on consoles

If I made it to master in sf6 using an xbox controller (analog stick btw) then so can you

Oh yeah I also play shooters with a trackball and it's fine, I just use an aimbot to compensate

Troll reply? Those macros are literally built into the game controls lmao, would it please you if I just mapped dash to the triggers instead?

Yes, upgrading your dpad will help you handle yourself in fighting games. People say skill is all that matters, but you need good equipment to practice on. Later you might pick up a dualshock and find you're better on it than before.

I've never tried the controller in your post but I do recommend the 8bitdo Pro2. Looks basic but the build quality is great and the dpad performs FG inputs really easily. Having bumpers on the back helps as well.
