What was the feeling of having a GameCube on its release day?

People don't talk about the fact that a lot of gaming in those days and at a young age was a lot of waiting on new games to come out I feel like there's just so much now and you don't really have to wait like that idk maybe I just felt that way

Good games back then released yearly, you waited max few month for a new good release, nowadays you wait 3-4 years for 1 (one) good game

Nah, I was such a dumb simple kid that I could have fun just running around the hub world in Mario

You had a few games. They were games kids with PS2s or XBOXes didn't have, and they were all bangers, but it was kind of isolating.

Until someone had a sleep over or something and then you were the cool wild card with the games nobody else had.

Melee was always a hit in middle school.

You wait 5 years for 1 good game but the shelves are loaded with 30 years worth of remakes. We are gluttons for choice now. Its all mid slop, but we have a ton of it.

Say one thing for the GameCube: it certainly was fucking cubic.

>WTF, PS2 has Final Fantasy X, Metal Solid 2, Grand Theft Auto 3, and Silent Hill 2 this year?!?!?!? Why am I sitting here playing Luigi's-hump-dressers-in-a-haunted-mansion tech demo that ends after 2 hours?!?!
>WTF, PS2 can play PS1 games and use PS1 controllers?!? Why can't the GameCube play N64 games?
>WTF, the PS2 is getting support for online games this year?!? Why can't my GameCube play Tony Hawk online??!?
>WTF, the controller is missing a second Z button, clickable sticks, a select button, and
Buying the shitcube is the biggest regret of my life. Absolute dogshit console with 0 redeeming qualities. Anyone shilling this slop is a mentally retarded cubie who had no other games growing up.

I remember being super impressed at the dust Luigi kicked up when walking in Mansion.
The controller felt weird after getting used to the Dreamcast one.

Disappointing. The launch line up was really weak. Smash was the only good game for a while and graphics were still borderline N64. Meanwhile Xbox had DOA3 looking incredible.

Gamecube was the Xbox Series of its time. It missed so many multiplat games because of low sales and the mini discs causing limitations.

>at a young age was a lot of waiting on new games to come out
Was the opposite for me. I generally did not keep up with release dates for games until I was a teenager or so and the internet became more fleshed out.

I was playing Smelee and Luigi's Mansion

I got bullied for owning it because it looked like a lunchbox for kids.

In all honesty Gamecube games on release wss quite spectacular because the fee games that were looked a lot more notably next gen than what the ps2 had been getting so far, which was a lot of Dreamcast ports.

Luigi's Mansion, Rogue Leader and Melee looked so slick and round and sharp. It was mesmerizing.

>graphics were still borderline N64

Youre talking about the ps2 early games. Gamecube early exclusives were aggressively better looking than most stuff on the competition. It was a drastic change.

I legit was amazed when I pressed the power button and heard the little fan start the whiring sound.

I miss being wowed by the simple things in life.

Very underwhelming to get Luigi's Mansion instead of Super Mario 128. It took a few days to warm up to LM and realize it was a good game in its own right but it was never a substitute for Mario. Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II was good though, just what you'd want from a sequel.

Excitment and optimism. I had Rogue Squadron 2, Luigi’s Mansion, and Wave Race on day 1. Pretty solid launch lineup for a Nintendo console.

But it also lacked the magic of playing Super Mario World or Super Mario 64 for the first time. It didn’t feel like a huge jump the way it felt for those games. But RS2 looked amazing and was fun as hell
