I don't buy it. They were selling their consoles for far less than the competition and the GameCube was no slouch in performance by comparison. Debuting at an already low price, there is no way were they making any profit after the first price drop let alone the second. Most of the GameCubes life was at a $99 price point at retail and the stores weren't selling it as a charity, they got a cut of that $99. Unless there was a magic machine where Nintendo input leaves and dirt and it spat out completed GameCubes, they were absolutely losing money on every console.
