Those are the best ways to get ahead of the enemies in your lane. If you force them to back off under their guardian you've gained space and you can't farm more waves of troops (because they're pushed back). Depending on how much space you have you should

>get gold statues if they're not out of the way
Prioritize going after THEIR jungles, boxes, and slot machines as long as it doesn't put you at risk of getting ganked. When the spirit urn spawns you can run it if you're a mobile hero/have mobility items and feel confident you won't get killed. The main thing is the more time you spend waffling or not doing something the further behind you'll get.

Keep in mind that for basically every single part of this some heroes are better or worse than others. Some characters suck at last hitting and denying. Some characters suck at clearing camps. Some characters suck at harassing.

This is something I have been struggling with. I've played for a bit now and I'm still always so unsure if I can kill anyone in mid to late game. Even if I see someone farming a lane alone out of position and I have a bit of a soul lead I never know if I should go the the kill. Something to do with 90% of the skills being skillshots along with having to aim the "auto attack". Feels like if you miss any part of your combo of fail to track them well with your gun they are just going to get away or it's going to take too long and one of their teammates will show up. In something like Dota going for a kill is so much more of a sure thing, you just see someone out of position, click your spells on them then right click and it's done.

Also in lane there is a 99% chance that if I see an opening and commit to going for a kill my lane partner will back off to the the shop the moment I go in. Then I just end up playing passive the rest of the lane so I don't keep feeding.
