Obscure retro games
Post obscure games you thought and/or still think were good/cool.
Picrel. You could design your own vehicles and aircraft which I thought was the dopest shit ever, even if it was kind of horribly balanced. The techno-post-apoc aesthetic it's got going on is my jam and I digged the music too.
It also got FOSS'd by its own dev which is rare to see and kind of cool in its own right. You can just download it for free now and it'll work natively.

I still pop this game on every now and then. Still a fun time. Campaign is still kino too. Except for Gamma 5, the very definition of anti-fun in an RTS.

There was a bug in the original game that let you put VTOL weapons on land units. They were treated like high damage shots with a very short range and a long cooldown. Except the Phosphor Bomb Bay specifically which had no cooldown, leading it to being a rapid fire nuke that also set enemies on fire. Anyone who got close would be obliterated near instantly.
Sadly the modern version patched the bug out. Couldn't tell you which version it was removed exactly.

As it's open sores now you can re-introduce the bug deliberately in your own build if you really want.

I get way too invested into the unit designer in that game. Always have like 30something different ones saved by the end of a campaign.

German rpg. I keep thinking about going back to it but last time I couldn't make it work on modern system.

Had this one on the PS1 and PC, such a fun and novel take on RTS, the campaign was also fun, but fuck Nexus taking control on your units.

For a moment I thought it's Shattered Union. Speaking of I feel the setting of broken apart American is underated and underused in video games.

The multiplayer "community" of this game consists of eastern Europeans who have no clue what the core of this game is because all they do is play each other over and over in these 5vs5 "NTW" maps where the terrain is virtually featureless, everyone has 40 oil derricks at their base, the energy levels set to high, and they have never played any other RTS.
If you search for WZ2100 multiplayer games on youtube that is pretty much all you will see, If you don't play the game with these settings they act like you don't know the game even though they have no understanding of things as simple as power creep.
They literally think the fucking truth is theirs to define because they are the most vocal players, Which is why they threatened to shut off the game hoster (they have come to depend on) because the devs wouldn't ignore people they disagree with.

>old as fuck rts
>has a slav community
yep, that's a sign of kino

reminds me of sudden strike 2, which has an insanely autistic modern warfare mod that has literally 1000+ vehicles and insanely large maps, just beautiful slavic autism

Goddamn, I swear that this game and that game are somehow spiritually linked or something. (aside from the fact that one still has an active "community", while the other doesn't have any)

I've not played the game (single player) for years nor have I ever played MP. In skirmish mode I just like building huge artillery batteries and dropping the hammer on the a.i so what you describe means nothing to me but is usually how lesser known games end up.
