It's important to note that all of borderlands side missions up until this point were fully voiced with their own little story, and a lot of them had unique objectives that weren't entirely just fetch quests that you did while doing the main quest.
So there's really no way they didn't just add in a shit ton of those filler fetch quests that you will complete passively, or ones that are completable in a minute or two

I wonder if they're going to keep the dogshit design where there's no difficulty settings in the first playthrough, side quest rewards don't scale, and if you complete more than a third of them you start to severely over level the main mission content, so you can't start playing the game for real until you beat it.

If that's really what you got from my post you seriously need to work on your reading comprehension, buddy. BL1 was cringe, but it was EDGY cringe. It was cynical and sometimes even misanthropic. Characters barks were mostly making fun of whoever they just killed and in general were always aimed at a person. Always at someones expense. In BL2, and especially BL3, that switched to making ironic jokes about the situation. The whole mean spirited part of BL1s writing was gone. That is what didn't land with me and the main reason why i didn't buy BL2 DLC or ever touched BL3.

I didn't even enjoy BL2 enough to do a second playthrough recently. I avoided BL3 like the plague. Why would I be hyped for BL4? Give me one good reason that isn't just infinite procedural guns to farm and sub-percentage stat boosts in my singleplayer shooter with optional friends?

I was a fan of 1 before I played 2 though and I didn't get mad when Roland died even though I mained him from the start in BL1. It fucked me up but I wasn't mad at the game for doing it. It just made killing jack all that sweeter.
BL3 absolutely made me seethe at the game itself even though I never really played Maya, also Axton and Salv were like... nowhere to be fucking found? Krieg got a fucking entire DLC dedicated to him and two of the main vault hunters got to be announcers in a fucking alternate gamemode DLC and nothing more. Which is fucking stupid because Axton of all characters could have gotten some nice character development if he joined the Crimson Raiders.

I mean the series has always been good. As long as they continue adding new gameplay loops and loot it will continue to sell. Not at the price they are asking for but it will continue selling.
