My Hot Take (tm):

I actually appreciate and enjoy OOT more. Majora had a really neat concept and it explores LE DARK THEMES AND DEATH MAAAAN...

... But it feels too rushed and one note to me. It just hammers home the same theme over and over and doesn't really bring much to the table beyond being just the most depressing Zelda title.

Ocarina has multiple and varied themes, ranging across many set pieces and environments, with better dungeons AND more interesting characters, desu. Ocarina also doesn't bash you over the head with it's themes like Majora and treats the player as smart enough to figure them out through subtext instead of hitting you over the head with them the way Majora does.

I love them both, but Ocarina feels more like a true masterpiece to me, while Majora just feels like a flawed gem.

>another stealth Breath of the GOD and WIN of the Kingdom hate thread
It's all so tiring.
They're the best games in the franchise.
You will never get mediocre games like Majora's Mask or Wind Waker, ever again.
They don't sell because only a small community of retards liked them.
Everyone else wants more of the greatest of all time, two games back to back that outsold the rest of the franchise put together.
The numbers don't lie and neither do the (real) fans.
BotW/TotK >>>>>>> retro (classic?) "Zelda"
Splashing in a billion puzzles for babies and generic dungeons doesn't make them good games.
And Majora's Mask is probably one of the worst ones, absolute chore to even touch, let alone play in any serious capacity.

Immediately ruined by making the boss the easiest one in the whole franchise thanks to the Giant Mask.

The Woodfall Temple is by far the best temple, with its atmosphere, great boss, and okay puzzles, but it just went downhill from there. The Snowhead Temple is a drag to get through, and the Great Bay Temple is by FAR the worst-designed Water Temple in any Zelda game. Using the Zora there is such a pain instead of being fun.

OoT is well known for its thematic temples, but none of MM’s temples come close to the Forest Temple’s atmosphere or the Spirit Temple’s cool designs. OoT’s temples are simpler by design, and I’m glad WW and, to some extent, TP followed that approach instead of the low-tier designs MM had.

At the end of the day, MM wins in lore, and villain, but every single temple was very lackluster. That’s why almost no one really has fond memories of them, unless it was your only Zelda game ever.

That’s why we can fondly talk about how we had to access Jabu-Jabu to find Ruto, why we can discuss how creepy the Forest Temple is once you realize all the ghostly cries belong to the dead Hyrulean family, since it was the Royal Keep that Ganon discovered and where he exterminated everybody except Zelda, and why the Water Temple is so iconic for its first-try difficulty. They’re all memorable, well-thought-out temples with design choices that overshadow MM’s temples so hard it’s not even funny.

I'm being hyperbolic of course, but from interviews koizumi says he was making his own game. Then miyamoto said "zelda" and he was suddenly on the team, with his game being cancelled. The Japanese don't exactly say 'no' to their bosses in these sort of scenarios.
Also Aonuma didn't even make the majoras mask dungeons! What the fuck!

I like OoT so much that I almost remember all the 100 golden skulltulas and I still believe that the water temple is hampered by a design oversight that easily puts it below Great Bay Temple.
3DS fixed it but I really don't like the remake's style. They even pan the camera towards where people usually get stuck for like 3 whole seconds.

MM has probably the best dungeon design philosophy of any of the 3D Zeldas. They all emphasize interacting with the dungeon as a space, kinda like what the Divine Beasts in BotW do except with MM, they're actual dungeons. MM's probably the closest 3D Zelda ever gets to consistently leaning into some kind of actual spatial reasoning.

The levels of cope on this, MM Temples half the time are incoherent and feel more like broken rooms with mini challenges like getting the godam stupid fairies, I love going through all of WW Temples, I love going through all of OoT Temples because they feel connected, part of a complete maze, but MM Temples always feel like a drag for some reason, is always a joy to get to the MM Temples, like the fun part is to actually enter them, but once inside is just such a chore.

OoT and WW Temples are WHY people want the Next Zelda to have massive Temples and ditch the focus on the Open World aspects, no one will tell you they want BotW Shrines out because of MM Temple designs

What cope? Woodfall gently introduces the idea with its poisoned water management but Snowhead's central column, Great Bay's current switches and Stone Tower's turning entirely upside down all lean pretty hard into treating the actual space itself as a mechanic. I honestly think that's pretty cool from a design standpoint and lends them their own distinct way of feeling holistic.

>I love going through all of WW Temples
Couldn't be me, aside from Wind Temple that is some sleep-inducing shit, and even then Makar is trying his damndest to make my eyelids heavy.

>no one will tell you they want BotW Shrines out because of MM Temple designs
I will. I wished Divine Beasts were actual dungeons with actual combat scenarios so that they could actually be worth something. Granted, I also wish BotW was by and large an entirely different game so that's not really the greatest of its problems.

Managing the currents is one thing, but I can see it being an absolute bitch to get lost in if you never really clue into following the pipes on the wall. Only thing I don't like about Great Bay is that freezing and unfreezing columns of water triggers a cutscene every fucking time, but even then it's only particularly annoying in one room where it's integral to solving the puzzle.

I don't really mind, I dont like a lot of newer games anyways so Zelda isn't the only series where I prefer an older title. I used to think it was a nostalgia issue, but after playing older titles I'd never even heard of as a kid and liking them, I realized I just actually like older games better.
I actually didn't get very far in MM until 2021 when I was 26 or so and I had so much fun. I was just getting really into being goth again and would sit there and just play MM all day fully dressed up and clack my giant 8 inch heels together and rub my rings against the controller. Such a simple thing but such a good memory, especially when I would lure the little chicks around in that side quest, and ESPECIALLY the part with the fucking aliens on the ranch. I love both of those quests associated songs.

It feels rushed because it was severely rushed, while it is my favorite Zelda game and I have an absolute obsession with Skull Kid, and I absolutely love some of the music (Mainly the alien theme and the Woodfall temple theme), my first playthrough it really bugged me how character models were repeated and how some of the music is really fucking bad (the fucking. Ice Goron temple. Whatever the fuck it was called again) or just repetitive, such as how every area before the temples are just remixes of each other. After learning the backstory behind all of that, how the moon falling and the time limits were like how the devs were feeling on that brutal time crunch with Miyamoto obsessing over everything, it made things more interesting for me having that insight.

TP's intro is great and full of soul. It being slow is only a problem on replays.

Something I think thats interesting about 4chan, is that while with most communities, the more they like something, the happier it makes them (with exceptions) but with 4chan, the more they like something, the angrier it makes them. Using /v/ as a homeschooled 15 year old back in the day, I thought everywhere was like this, and would try to connect to people irl who liked games by complaining about them, and they'd always look at me weird.

I think Sands of Time and Ultimate Trial are still the most recent releases of any substance.
Try pumpkin tower if you haven't already. It's a bit of a meme hack but still good and one of very few MM romhacks

Woodall temple was absolutely the best in every way. My favorite temple in any Zelda game. Snowhead temple fucking sucked, especially the music. I had some fun with the boss, though. But MM's water temple I actually had fun with and I really enjoyed playing as a Zora there, and I liked the industrial sounding music. I've beaten OOT about 10 or 12 times and I still do not enjoy the water temple at all. It's hard to judge things like this through any "true" metric, because it is all subjective.
