Immediately ruined by making the boss the easiest one in the whole franchise thanks to the Giant Mask.
The Woodfall Temple is by far the best temple, with its atmosphere, great boss, and okay puzzles, but it just went downhill from there. The Snowhead Temple is a drag to get through, and the Great Bay Temple is by FAR the worst-designed Water Temple in any Zelda game. Using the Zora there is such a pain instead of being fun.
OoT is well known for its thematic temples, but none of MMβs temples come close to the Forest Templeβs atmosphere or the Spirit Templeβs cool designs. OoTβs temples are simpler by design, and Iβm glad WW and, to some extent, TP followed that approach instead of the low-tier designs MM had.
At the end of the day, MM wins in lore, and villain, but every single temple was very lackluster. Thatβs why almost no one really has fond memories of them, unless it was your only Zelda game ever.
Thatβs why we can fondly talk about how we had to access Jabu-Jabu to find Ruto, why we can discuss how creepy the Forest Temple is once you realize all the ghostly cries belong to the dead Hyrulean family, since it was the Royal Keep that Ganon discovered and where he exterminated everybody except Zelda, and why the Water Temple is so iconic for its first-try difficulty. Theyβre all memorable, well-thought-out temples with design choices that overshadow MMβs temples so hard itβs not even funny.
