Are OLED screens the biggest meme ever existed in this industry? Like for example Nintendo Switch 2 screen is, if I can say, even better than the Switch 1 OLED screen lol.

What I'm trying to say is, don't be afraid of buying Switch 2 just because lc the screen.

It's nice for LCD standards but OLED would still be nice for battery reasons.

It's an interesting optimisation to build motion blur into the screen instead of wasting processing power on it, I'll say that much

LCD screens may look OK depending on lighting conditions, image calibration, etc. But there is a price to pay. The better the image, the worse the characteristics suitable for gaming. That's why every television has a game mode, and the image in that mode is complete garbage when compared to other modes.

The Nintendo Switch 2 screen is a total disaster when it comes to motion clarity, being considerably worse than the Switch 1 (50% slower), which was already a total disaster.

In my opinion, Nintendo didn't want people to compare the Switch 2 screen with the Switch 1 OLED screen and see a huge downgrade, so they sacrificed response time to try to make the screen look nicer. The result is a screen whose performance for games is comparable to things from 2005.

I don't have an OLED monitor or handheld console, but I've had OLED on my phone since 2014 and my TV has been OLED for some years, and I don't really get the big deal. The contrast is nice, sure, but I don't think it's fundamentally different from a nice IPS

>ABL can't be disabled
>obnoxious VRR flicker
>blue LEDs have shorter life spans than the green and red ones
>absolutely absurd price
>if you want a model with a strobing backlight it costs twice as much AND doesn't even fix the motion blur
>overall lifespan is a 1/4 of LCD

Apart from the black levels (which plasma already did 30 years ago) they are terrible for video games.

The contrast in undoubtedly superior and it is great for small devices where you don't really need to worry about burn in but I'll never understand how can anyone buy big screens knowing they have to baby sit that shit 24/7.
