Party member setups in rpgs
Post party member setups.
Rate them.
Autistically argue about each others choices.
This is objectively the most minmaxed endgame setup in P4 if you give chie the spell master accessory.

Brave blade is better than burning petals. A lot of people have the misconception that burning petals is the highest damage magic skill in the game because the game doesn’t give you the actual power values.
The other reason why Yosuke is better is because phys skills on top of being stronger outside of being unable to hit elemental weaknesses can crit.

Assuming its p4g, Yosuke learns up to Diarama, his lategame skill is Mediarama + Masukukaja so he can play healer for the final dungeon and Margaret. Generally speaking though, you won’t really need healing all that much thanks to items and this is purely from a min-max perspective, as you play through the game who is best varies, for example Chie is consistently utter dogshit almost the entire game until she gets God Hand super late while Kanji remains generally consistently good. Teddie is an amazing support character until Kanji learns Matarukaja, etc.

Since FFV has a static party of 4 I'll just describe the job combos I used for everybody on my recent playthrough
>Butz
Main Job: Dancer
Side Job: Cannoneer (!Open Fire)
>Lenna
Main Job: Berserker
Side Job: Thief (Artful Dodger)
>Krile
Main Job: Oracle
Side Job: Summoner (!Call)
>Faris
Main Job: Blue Mage
Side Job: Red Mage (!Dualcast)

The idea was simple. Bartz sits in the back and shoots people and sometimes Dances. Lenna sits in the front and just spams attacks over and over at the speed of sound. Krile is on Predict and Call duty so there is zero consistency of any kind. Faris is the backup if I need immediate healing, quick damage, or some niche Blue Spell to save my retarded party.
I don't play the GBA version all that often so I wanted to get some use out of the new jobs. It was a very fun playthrough.

Vivi can deal max damage without having to do anything stupid like the frog minigame.
Both Vivi and Eiko can deal 9999 damage twice when trancing.
Steiner is the earliest to reach the 9999 damage cap with his regular attack and with the shortest animations, he also has the best skills in the game.
I get that mighty guard is really good and I agree but Eiko can do the same shit with carbuncle and earlier too while not having to have specific conditions for her healing.

I wish ff games had more super bosses and optional super dungeons to really test these things out.
Its sad that ff9 has a potential intresting discussion but the only boss it remotely matters on is ozma and he actually dies really fast if you just full damage
The super mario rpg remake just added simple boss rematches with higher stats and new equipment drops for rewards which didn’t take much work since no new assets needed to be made and its so nice.
You might be right, but we don’t have a way to really challenge these setups without janky ass fan balance mods.

Heismay, Eupha, Basilio.
I could also make an argument for a setup like
Junah, Basilio, Strohl
But I think that setup is too reliant on infinite press turns which is a gay way to cheese endgame bosses and doesnt have enough survivability for the toughest bosses. Maybe replace either strohl or basilio depending on preference with heismay

Not barafagging, rosch has the biggest damage buff and Stocke can handle healing.
Gafka is objectively the best character in that game. If you absolutely don’t want to use Rosch then the choice would be either Marco or Eruca depending on what you value more: trans-turn or power rise.
I genuinely hope you’re not trying to say Aht is actually good cause you’d be outing yourself as a foo strat idiot and not someone who can make actual arguments or analysis.

Also if you really want to bitch about yosuke being optimal for margaret then I can tell you this at least then
Teddie > Yukiko early to midgame since he learns attack and defense buffs early

Nah eruca and raynie are good. Aht is only good for random encounters and pretty bad for bosses outside of healing and has so much availability that if you overuse her she could stymie the growth of better characters
The only reason I say Rosch is good is because of his attack buff, but the only character who is objectively the best is Gafka because of his Musou skill.
You could rely on ahts traps throughout the game for easy kills on random encounters but trying to setup combos does more damage and whenever a boss covers all tiles she becomes useless

That is all expected, but you should also understand that some anons are going to come in here and just say that they make parties just based off of characters that they like.

I think that party optimization in JRPGs is usually gay anyways because those games usually aren't difficult enough to justify doing it. Like lmao optimizing your party in Persona, as if those games aren't all piss easy, it's like spending your time optimizing your teams in pic. You can do it, but I don't know why you'd bother.

I certainly am somewhat upset that the Dojimas never join the party in 4. Nanako would have made for an interesting party member like Ken and Ryoutarou for an old one, something that hasn’t happened since p2 and has been in side games at best recently.
P5 easily has the most boring cast ever. They tried to do the pet persona user thing again but ruined it by making morgana into a cartoon cat, everyone else in 5 is boring, except akechi i guess

Every post talking about aht in this thread has said that her traps are good for random encounters and bad everywhere else. The only reason why shes discouraged to be used whenever theres more than 3 members (including her) is because party members in reserve get less exp and shes completely useless for the toughest bosses in the game (because they take up all the enemy blocks meaning she cant use traps). Not only that even if its a boss where she can use traps setting up combos with literally anyone else does far more damage. If you want a magic character instead of ungabunga musou spam with Gafka, Raynie or Eruca are both better.

For mobbing the best team is:
Ryuji
Yusuke
Morgana/Haru
Can cleanly kill every mob before they even attack.

For bossing you'd swap Yusuke for Haru. She out damages him pretty soundly and has way better utility.

Bossing before or after yaldy?
Before yaldy I can soundly say the best party is what you say, mainly because makotos passive isn’t good until after her third tier evo and Haru is just that good.
After yaldy though, I think the best party setup for bossing will always include Akechi (tactical spirit) and Haru while for random encounters its definitely Makoto, Akechi, anyone (tactical spirit + checkmate and 50% basuidi debuff boost). Last slot will depend on what you need but Yusuke becomes far less useful at this point while makoto becomes really strong for technicals.
Anonymous No.719813320
>>719812786
Haru is the best character for technicals and technically better phys than both Yusuke and Ryuji (you need Ryuji in any phys oriented party either way cause of raging temper).
Life wall is a downright necessity in the toughest boss fights in the game so I think its a bit silly to say she isn’t needed but its common for personafags to underestimate aoe repels.
Ken was similarly underestimated in 3, everyone thought his theurgy condition was everytime he went below half sp when in reality it was being in half sp or under everytime his turn came around and it was the FASTEST charge rate in your party.

Haru is best as a physical attacker. High crit rate on One-Shot Kill so she can baton pass to Joker, Triple Down is swift strike on steroids, and heat riser to buff protag.

Rogue dodge tanks while using various tools to apply debuffs, including a flask of oil that doubles the next instance of fire damage taken. Cleric buffs the rogue's evasion & bashes the enemy to amplify the damage they take. Warlock applies a bunch of buffs & debuffs, then blasts the boss with incinerate which deals fire damage based on the # of debuffs on the target.

Buffs & debuffs are pretty varied & useful, tanking is strong, but healing is not super relevant imo - the party heals to full after each fight, and it's more about preserving mana. It's kind of short & not very difficult, but it's cute and does some unique stuff with party composition. Because you only have 3 party slots but like 9 or 10 different classes, you always feel like you're missing something, and you're trying to set up small synergies. It has a very aggressive exp curve, which lets you create a fresh party member, bring them along to a midgame dungeon, and get like 10 levels in a single encounter, making it quite painless to experiment with party lineups.

>Gale dog is way too overpowered to overlook.
the AI isn't nearly smart enough to abuse it and in general takes too many hits as the squishiest character in the game, meanwhile yuri just kind of passively does stuff and while not being literally invincible when controlled can hit almost every element and is a combo beast

speaking of AI, I unironically think judy is better then raven as a party member. the enemy AI is designed to gang up on whoever is in P1 slot so if you put judith there and then moon selector over to who you actually want to play she'll do a great job using her speed/range to distrupt and knockdown all the enemies while you can follow up instead of having to constantly bait out attacks so you dont get slapped in the ass by birds. her AI is never going to do a 25 second jump cancel combo but judith doesn't require those to be good and the AI never makes mistakes in terms of the weird spacing bullshit that can cause her combos to fail if you don't constantly swap to semi auto that makes learning her so annoying. Raven (and estelle, but she's broken enough it doesn't matter) get confused on when is the best time to cast spells and when its time to phys damage and even if you turn off all his artes he'll still plink bowshots at the worst times while judith just kind of runs at them with a combo of bulk/speed and gets it done.
Anonymous No.719821275

Like I’m pretty sure that the optimal comp is 3 cast spammers (maybe even flynn over raven) and repede dodging everything with gale dog.
