It's multiple factors converging. First the pandemic hiring spree was unprecedented. Anyone with "some college" on their resume was able to get a $50k entry level job in tech. Now that the boom is over and the growth just wasn't sustainable the industry is shrinking back down to normal. But we're actually shrinking even more because AI isn't just killing those positions but it's killing other positions, especially in data entry and some forms of asset creation, as well. As soon as generative AI really kicks off many asset farms, especially in india, are going to go away forever. Right now a AAA studio needs like 5 meetings and 2 weeks to change some assets. With generative AI that's going to happen in an afternoon.
