So that's it? Just because I died twice in a row by some retarded enemy that take twice of my health I lose the 500 rosaries I've had and wasted hours to gather? Just like that? And I'm supposed to forgive this game for doing that to me time?

Did the game hit you in the head, too, or did your mother drop you a couple times as a child?

Game keeps all the bad design flaws and 9utdated mechanics that made me hate the first game. Thank god the steam store wouldnt let me purchase it so i pirated it. I uninstalled it when i died and had to backtrack 5 min worth of game

The reason a system like this wasn't in previous Metroidvanias has nothing to do with "difficulty" and everything to do with developers that understand why it isn't appropriate. This is the same reason they didn't have lives.

The game is popular, therefore it is an appropriate mechanic to include.

Silksong is being contrarian by shoehorning mechanics into Metroidvanias that no other game in the genre has despite players not enjoying said mechanics.

Most players are enjoying it, though, it was the objectively correct move and it's consistent with Hollow Knight. It's okay to admit you ate shit and are mad at the loss of your time investment, you don't have to try to convince people the mechanic is bad and doesn't fit the game. There's nothing wrong with losing in a game once in a while.
Anonymous No.719854506 >>719854641

I'm not the Anon you were initially replying to and the issue has nothing to do with difficulty because this mechanic does not increase the difficulty, it merely increases the tedium. What objective metric are you using to determine that this was an objectively correct mechanic to include?
Anonymous No.719854641 >>719854918
>>719854506
I never said anything about it increasing difficulty. What it does is increase tension on corpse runs, which is fun for a lot of people or Hollow Knight and Silksong would not have done so well.
>What objective metric are you using to determine that this was an objectively correct mechanic to include?
Reviews not complaining about the mechanic on average. Don't like the mechanic? Don't play the game, easy as.

What is your evidence that the games sales are directly correlated to the inclusion of this mechanic? What is your evidence that the game succeeded because of this mechanic, rather than in spite of it?
>Reviews not complaining about the mechanic on average
Are reviewers an accurate representation of a game's playerbase?
Anonymous No.719855202 >>719855232

The game sold incredibly well for being an indie game and compared to other metroidvanias despite the inclusion of said mechanic, which means that nobody actually cares about how metroidvanias "should be" except for black and white thinking autistic people. No reviews, at least those that I've read so far, are complaining about the mechanic's inclusion, this is literally the only time I've seen anyone complain about the soulslike death mechanic for Silksong, if it were a hot button topic, it would be making the rounds on social media more broadly, and it isn't. I'm sure there are more complaints about it for Hollow Knight that have accrued over the years, but it's obviously a minority issue, and caring about minorities is cringe.

I would think they're entitled to their opinion, as I am to mine, what they think wouldn't affect my enjoyment at all. That said, Ad Populam, which is important for products from a financial perspective, would obviously mean the market doesn't want soulslike mechanics either broadly or making an appearance in other genres, which would be fine and understandable if that were the case, but it is not the case.

And yes, I would feel bad if I didn't have breakfast yesterday.

Proving your own thoughts objectively to other people is obviously impossible Anon. We're not telepathic. I wouldn't go jumping through hoops trying to claim that X mechanic belongs in Y genre in all cases and everyone MUST follow the rules, however.

i'm playing the first hollow knight for basically the first time and this shit is too big
i get exploration or whatever is the point but it feels a little annoying having played for four hours tonight and fought two bosses with no idea where i'm really supposed to go to progress
the worst thing is i am finding new places it's just that none of them feel like the path forward
also was i supposed to hit the big sleeping bug by a gate near the start because it seemed rude but before stopping earlier tonight i managed to have looped all the way around to the other side of the gate, where a charm selling lady is so i couldn't help but wonder if i was supposed to have gotten there sooner.
