Serious answer is that his character design is so good, and his band of friends so broad and appealing (there's someone to be everyone's favourite character), that from a visual/marketing standpoint the brand is effectively invincible.

They just need to make sure to keep the game quality up. The movies are nice, but they are essentially feature length commercials for the games.

They have hit rock bottom already, that's the reason why they have gradually improved their games because they knew first hand how things can go out by going down the 06 path again. That the director of Frontiers was engaging with the community without poor communication like Murray helped things out too. Shadow Generations had a solid campaign from marketing, down to the gameplay and presentation.

Their fans doing a fat ton of free promotion through their mods, remakes and even going as far to create tools to make porting Xbox 360 titles to PC a reality for Unleashed alone says a lot of the commitment and love from those who love that blue-haired bastard hedgehog. I mean shit, a guy who made ports of the classic titles for the phones now works for them and his contributions are great.

Call them furries or schizos but they are legit the only fanbase I can with confidence say that they are sitting their asses down and DO something about the things that bug them.
They didn't wanted to wait for Unleashed and they made a way for ALL Xbox 360 games to be ported to PC and Unleashed on PC looks fucking beautiful even without the changes from the guys who made it into a playable version for the keyboard and mouse.

I present you a render from Sonic Blitz, a game coming out this year. If you saw this render for the first time, if not for the games logo, you would've likely assumed this render was from around the 2010s, and that's a bad thing.

Commercially the only Sonic games that actually failed were Black Knight, Lost World and the Sonic Boom shit, the others all sold well even when they sucked.

Rush's level design is terrible. Rush Adventure is a huge improvement in every way and the only reason I could see someone disliking it is the water minigames which are completely harmless and not even boring or overly hard. Also fucking kek at Advance trilogy being in "Great", they're incredibly flawed. 1 is a decent time, nothing too bad or too good, 2 is hit or miss depending on how much you like collecting medals, 3 only arguably gets good after you're several zones in and have more than two characters to pick. The level design is also a clusterfuck and chao are terrible collectibles. This whole list is terrible desu

At the character level, he has a good design and a strong concept with a nemesis that complements all the things that work about him. Sonic is a great mascot/hero (and Eggman is a great villain)... which is good because the games they're in aren't always good.

I never ran into a situation where I needed to grind because I was already chasing S ranks. That aside, if Advance 3 gets to be judged by how it is when you have all the characters, I don't see how it's unfair to judge Rush Adventure by only the actual levels.
