Why does any shitty game receive a bunch of buzz? Some shit eating influencers said it's engoodened, people parrot the opinions and they become received wisdom.

The game plays like shit, ship mechanics feel like a student project, exploration sucks, proc gen is souless and random, all mechanics serve no purpose and build towards nothing. It's a randomly generated screen saver, buy it and try it if you must, get scammed like we all did.

Corvettes are cool. You can customise them and actually travel inside them while in space, which adds a huge amount of immersion. The custom designs are great.
>>719903657
Corvettes are multicrew if you want, although functionality is kind of limited. Basically you can build them a room to live in and they can hang out on your ship while you explore/fly around, but that's it really.

However, OP, the game is still the same as it was at launch. Yes, there are new things and new systems and new things to find, but the core gameplay loop is:
>collect resource
>use it to upgrade gear
>upgraded gear collects resources faster
I guess there's some variety with light combat elements in some missions, but realistically 99% of the fun is your imagination.

The gameplay loop is very simple, and most of the new updates are just tests for their next game.

Yea it's cool. As long as you are looking at a primarily exploration game and not an rpg
Anonymous No.719904382
The story was interesting, its just that everything else was bad to mediocre.
The enemy variety was nothing.
Dogfighting was retard simple and not fun.
It used to lack ship customization totally, you had to just reload in stations and hope RNG gave you a cool ship to buy, of which there were only a couple.
The art style as a whole is fucking ugly.
There are only a handful of ultimate weapons, you will end up wanting one of these and nothing else, and they spawn in set locations.
Other than basic resource collection to build shit you have to pointlessly waste time scanning stones just to understand what NPCs are saying.

Its a 4.5/10 game no matter how much they layer on top.

every planet feels like the same one of 4 basic types reskinned/recolored. even the animals all behave the same. Every planet blurs together.

There is no special planet you'll find 30 jumps away that you can't find almost identical within 2-3 jumps. This and Fast travel + being able to reset missions to your local system makes exploration meaningless.

If it's better compared to mincraft. So if base building doesn't interest you I think you should pass

They have dumped so much effort into resource gathering that actually exploring is still not interesting after seeing maybe one biome from each variant. There is just nothing to do on planet surfaces besides gather resources and ogle a re-color of something you have already seen.
Not to mention the complete lack of procgen dungeons or even roaming on-foot pirates. Sentinel towers, Egg stashes, and Derelicts are ALL there is to find.

There's a lot of basic exploratory content that has been needed for years and they are just refusing to make even a simple version of any of it.

You can make multiple forms of bases with multiple methods and make manufacturing facilities that are essentially automated farms that produce a final result of a lucrative resource that is intended to be sold under economies that have affinity for the type.

A munitions manufacturing facility could be as simple a few bio domes but actually building something interesting with a front office and landing pads(which will bring in traveling traders) is the most satisfying thing to do currently.

I had a great time making a bunker stationed outside a Sentinel Tower so that I could go there and start a massive battle from the safety of the bunker when I needed a cash injection or Pugneum.

There's a crafting tree that shows you how to make all the most lucrative resources and making a base that can whip one up because of a common local resource is the current longterm meta.

For instance a planet may be rich in a certain mineral and a certain gas that you can easily regularly combine into a manufactured mineral for making circuit boards or something. Managing what bases can manufacture what is mostly down to what resources a planet has.
You could even make an automated mine with interconnected silos so tha when you go to visit it, you have fuckloads of Gold or Silver or whatever and don't have to grind.

Making different looking bases that fit the planet they are on is also very fun.

that's not true at all though. The only part that could be considered a grind is in the first few hours of the game, and even most of that is optional once you better understand how things work. You might have to manually gather your first stacks of copper, sulphur, oxygen, ferrite dust, and carbon, but after that it's entirely optional. But you can still do it if you want.

Min-maxers really hate this game because it's very easy to break if you want to use various exploits or if you only care about the most efficient way to make money, or get closer to the center of the galaxy, or whatever. But you don't have to do those things, you can just relax and have fun. If you're one of those people who struggles to use anything but the most optimal strategies in video games, then you probably won't like No Man's Sky. It's not about that.

I made my statement with the casual pace in mind, not using cheats, and obtaining all the engine upgrades to be able to visit all the stars in 20 hours. First time players will get distracted a lot with all the tutorial side quests, In my opinion.

Ok, so if I like building cool bases, like flying around and exploring planets, like building cool ships, will I like it?

That's basically all I ever wanted from no man's sky when it originally came out. I didn't buy it back then because of the negative reception

I just wish combat was better, on foot there's only the shitty corrupter broods or whatever the fuck and they only appear in specific spots, there's no 'predators' or anything like that anywhere, it's shit, the robots make up for it a bit but also way too limited
and the dogfighting in space is 'ok' but just way too basic, there's no depth to it at all, the different guns, the different ship types, it really doesn't matter, it's just a number game and whether your gun has the numbers to break the shiled of the enemy (it will) and that's it

the rest of the game is great, but the fact that the combat is so terrible just kills any reason to play it for more than ten or twenty hours

The lack of true on-foot combat is probably the single biggest problem with this game.

Why are pirates so common yet we never see them looting anything on a planet surface?
Why is it literally impossible to rob on-foot NPCs?
Why implement NPC combat AI for settlements then never use it anywhere else?
Why do Staffs use default animations and look like total shit placeholders when weilding them?

Effort for combat development is non-existent and I've been real tired of it for years.

Isnt it absolutely insane that Sean Murray pretty much lied about just about every aspect of NMS's features before launch and now people just accept it because it took him 10 years to add those features in?

I think they are casuals first, making games for casuals. My GF is not coordinated enough to even take down a single pirate. I dont think you understand how low the bar is for the target audience. As in its a game designed to be playable by game journalist, remember the image of their dev team.

He only ever agreed that ideas were good and could be done.
He never said "we came up with this and are going to do it"
He said "Yeah I don't see why we couldn't do that" or "Yeah that will be a feature sure."
It's important to understand he is a retarded autist that didn't understand you can't openly daydream about a game in development ON CAMERA.
Then you had the Sony money at play.
This made it so Sean just said anything he could to get the game to sell initially. If the game sold well enough, Hello Games would get a huge bonus.
This bonus was the lynchpin. Sean realized as the release approached that nearly everything he agreed to was not going to be possible on release.

But it would be if Hello Games could secure enough funding to fully finish the game and implement what people want.

By the time the game was ready to come out he decided that purposely avoiding public contact then finishing the game with the profits was wiser than going "oops I lied" because the game actually could end up what he mistakenly painted for the public with his UTTER RETARDATION.

He is fighting tooth and nail to clear his name and deliver on what he said was possible and I have no choice but to respect that.
About fucking had it with how every update breaks a million things that don't get fixed until the next update THAT ALSO BREAKS A MILLION OTHER THINGS.

That's why cheats are allowed without halting trophy acquisition.
They have no excuse to not at least put easy dungeons and simple gek pirates or something. It's just fucking lazy for there to be so little reason for combat to exist.

Because that trailer was admitted to being scripted and they had no idea how to really do those things yet. That's part of what I'm saying.
Hello Games is retarded and incompetent, not malicious and dishonest.
If they were malicious and dishonest they would not be paying console platforms $10,000 per update to give people free shit.

The idea they purposefully left out finished features despite popular demand is completely insane.
I get it. Game devs are fucking vermin and always greedy dishonest scum nowadays.

Hello Games are just a bunch of retards that are bad at stuff. It's not that serious.

Late to the thread but it's fine. Better than it's ever been but still pretty grindy and fussy. Like you collect way too many different types of redeemables (nanites, units, tech modules, quicksilver, data etc) and unlocking tech trees has a lot of scouting and scanning and you kinda realise that that is just the game. It's a toybox where you unlock new toys by exploring and resource gathering. There's a load of side activities you can do but none of them have a lot of depth. The game is also very arcadey and the space combat is basically 3D asteroids. It's fun enough, but if you've played a lot of space sims it's very rudimentary.

Having said all that. I did just spend 4 hours building a corvette.

If you play in 3rd person, you didn't beat the game. That's why the animations and timing seem a bit off. In 3rd person the jetpack timing feels weird, but it feels perfect in 1st person. The game is intended to be played in 1st person.

Probably because a lot of violence would feel out of place in an otherwise super peaceful exploration game. I do wish you could rob random ships that land on planets, though. One time some (((gek))) landed on a random extreme planet I was exploring, and they had a nice fucking ship. Trading with them, it was clear they were a smuggler/pirate anyway. Pissed me off that I couldn't just kill him and take the ship, nobody would know. And anyway you kill tons of people when you destroy freighters, and at least 1 when you destroy the smaller ships. I guess that's all off-screen though
