The price of a game is always going to be subjective. Right now the economy's having a rough patch so yeah, people are going to cut back on their spending, there's nothing you can do about that. It comes down to alternatives, too. It's not like salt where there's no real substitute, games are incredibly diverse from one another. Then it comes down to who your game's targeted at. $20 or $30 may not be a big deal for someone in the US, but after exchange rates that could be like $100 USD worth for someone else in another country. And then there's the fact that even if your game's amazing and it's worth $30, oops, bad timing, another new indie came out that's also great and is $25, what do you think's gonna happen?
Those days of an indie game being able to stand out by virtue of being complete and half-decent and having a year or two's attention all to itself are over. Cave Story, Braid, Spelunky, etc. We're dealing with fun indie games coming out every fucking month, at least.
