Steam friends are so fucking useless. You add someone you played a game with and had fun with only to never fucking talk to that guy or play with him ever again. And if you try to initate something then its a gamble. A 90% gamble of you losing that "friend" because the hidden rule about steam friends is that you're not friends and that you're actually collecting eachother on the friends list. I have nearly a hundred "friends" on steam added from random game sessions and not a single one of them has ever initiated conversation after said initial game session. If i were to contact all those people i would either get removed or ignored and i would be faced with the fact that these people are not my friends.

1 guy instantly rejected and went offline mode. Another just replied asking who i was. I told him i was his steam friend and then blocked and removed him. Another guy actually wanted to play!

People use discord for this now. Steam is just a store/server system these days. Ask if you can add them in discord, check out the publicly posted discords for the game you are playing. Also, most people who game alone are antisocial and wouldn't play with you again anyway.
