They care about those games and nothing else. That said, I did once ride the train with adult passengers playing on their Switch to pass the time. Indeed, Switch 2 seems dead but I don't know because I'm over 30 now, so I'm out of touch with kids and teenagers. My sister's family are against gaming and screens for their kids, but now their youngest is 6, and it seems they're actually buying TVs anyway. The next thing you know, she'll talk about what game devices her friends have, and start playing that.
My younger sister who was always a non-gamer socialite also asked me if she could take my PS4 the last time she visited, and got excited about it. She wanted to play The Last of Us and No Way Out.
So I feel like there's still a lot of interest in gaming, it's just that the whole thing about owning a TV isn't as popular with young people, so the need for a dedicated gaming device is less viable.
I hope this means we'll start seeing some innovation. I'd love a new hand-sized form-factor handheld that has games that suit the TikTok ADHD mind intended for smaller bursts of play.
I have this idea of a small device you always keep in your pocket, and unfold it with 1 hand, where it looks "cool" to use in public, and you can always switch it off when someone approaches you and put it back.
Something that allows people to use a dedicated gaming device like a phone in their pocket, and then the format makes developers work on design patterns that are meant for 1-5 minute bursts of play on the go, but 1-5 hours of play at home.
