Many of them are not even completely deaf, and could hear with modern cochlear implants, or even strong hearing aids, but refuse to. One of them was in my old WoW guild. He and his wife were both deaf, and they had a deaf baby that could hear with very minimal surgery, but they refused it. Not deaf but my parents are and I've been involved with deaf community events since I was a toddler. Can attest that some deaf people take it too far into "crabs in a bucket" territory. I've seen a dude slap his wife in public for bringing up the idea of getting cochlear surgery.

Sign languages are all different languages.
A deaf Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese can all sign to each other and understand themselves.
But they would all have to learn a foreign (to them) language to read and write in Japanese, Korean or Chinese.
It's a bit like someone who goes to Ireland and refuses to speak or write English, demanding people talk and write back to them in Irish instead.

Funnily enough, American sign language is based on French sign language and they can kind of understand each other, but British sign language is completely different, so American and British deafbros can't understand each other at all. The structure of ASL is also based on French rather than English, which is why you often see deaf people type lik ESLs, they literally are.

Somewhat related but back when I worked in a pharmacy I encountered someone like this. There was a lady who constantly came in for her prescriptions and had had a tracheotomy or whatever years ago and couldn't speak. But the thing is, since a formalized version of the sign language is newer than pretty much any language in use at the time, there could at least be some attempts at making it universal for the ease of use, since there isn't that many people that could sign anyway. Wouldn't it make sense to want that extremely small minority to communicate better with each other?
But it's probably too simplistic of a thought, and there is a hundred reasons why that wouldn't work.

Now that this is an ear thread guys, I got an external otitis since last week and since Wednesday I no longer hear anything on my right ear (well I hear 99% less than before, can't even hear mouse click even if I put the mouse right next to my ear for example)
My doctor said it was really weird and doesn't know what it is, got an appointment with an Ear specialist in one month but I'm scared I will loose my hearing on my right hear, it sucks
