2 is very cool for everything but the combat, because the combat is extremely bad. They based IS on it being an auto battle game where the game will play itself for 99% of random encounters but then you have to have slightly more hands on control for boss fights. It was so bad you can use your starter personas for the whole game. EP tried to move away from being so auto battle reliant but it just wasn't built for it.

P3 and P4 are similar games, with P3/4/5 being fairly conventional sequels to each other. 3 is more serious in tone with an emo theme, while 4 is more comfy in tone with a bit of mystery/detective theme. Pick either.
P1 and P2 are much traditional RPGs.
Pretty much anything SMT is also fairly adjacent, and shares the persona/demons and fusion stuff, though are more gameplay focused. It's probably worth trying Nocturne at some point if you liked the gameplay part of modern Persona.
