Anecdotal, but I've been statistically verified to be better at games I regularly play and have deep ingrained muscle memory for when drunk, but much worse when learning new games drunk.
Alcohol makes you way much aggressive and instinctive with your decisions, but it doesn't mean anything when you have zero instincts in a particular game.
Take from that what you will I guess.
i've given up alcohol and feel much better, even now when i still have some withdrawal symptoms. i used to think that i gamed better while drunk. turns out i game better while sober for sure, i was just more confident. and i used to get angry and nervous playing multiplayer fps while sober. not anymore.

Beer is OK. It's really satisfying to drink when you're thirsty and want something you can drink a lot of and get drunk off. But beer is a workhorse drink that's never top tier, Trappist stuff is a meme trying too hard to be like wine.
Games/Movies/TV are only fun with alcohol. I have tried medicinal cannabis instead, prescribed as an alternative to my nightly alcohol, but I stopped feeling it after about three weeks (it only enhanced TV/movies (barely), it made games worse).
Books are fine without any substance abuse, but there aren't enough good ones as someone who only enjoys fantasy. Only a good book or alcohol-infused digital media are sufficient home-alone distractions for PTSD.
